Failed GT350 delivery!

Hi guys,

My car finally arrived from Germany. Although as you very well know, the GT350 is not oficially sold in Europe, I managed to find a good car (2017 new and fully loaded) for a fair price.

Took the jump and I had to choose between driving it here and having it delivered on truck. I chose to have it delivered because I was not sure of the road conditions till here (two weeks ago it snowed like crazy).

Finally the car arrived today after a few stops, one of which ment to have it loaded and unloaded. During that process they fucked the front lip assebly, scratching it :doh::frusty:

Now, I took delivery of it as it was, as I figured it would be better to get involved (better for the car) and solve it with the transporter/insurer, then not receiving it and basically letting them to sort out.

I attached the pictures but I don't know yet if the assembly is broken or not, or it's just the paint. After I have the car registered at the road authority and have my plates I'll go to a service to have it checked and see if I can mount the front black plastic splitter without hassle.

What's your take?

PS: Car didn't have the front splitter installed during transport as that would make it even more prone to damage.

This. And I'd also get them to agree that it's their responsibility to replace the fascia well before you show them how much it costs. I don't remember off-hand but it's very expensive.

Seems the delivery went through but the damage is the issue...
I'd suggest you search through this forum (terms like delivey, damage on pick up- that sort of stuff). You're not the only one with this issue. You'll find that dealing w this is gonna be a tangled web to sort...Multiple delivery companies, finding out when the damage happened....I'd get all paperwork from those involved, and see if there's any documentation of the damage from one provider to another. Get a couple of estimates to repair. Then try to get $$$. Seems like an up hill battle though. Good luck :cheers:

Mine is going to be driven around 150km from the port to Santiago city before delivery to me. I chosen this over truck transport since I've seen many transporters not loading the GT350 properly and therefore causing damage. Hopefully mine arrives undamaged

While it sucks to have the downside of your car damaged, hopefully it is not so bad that you can't mount the splitter. If you can and it fits safely, then I would recommend you just to forget it, since your other options would be:

- Repairing/repainting the damaged area, which could raise suspicion of what really happened if selling the car at a later date.

- Getting a new front bumper, which could take really long to get it done (due to importing the parts and all) and risk having paint matching issues.

Anyways, the car sits so low to the ground that most probably you will scrape the downside of your car at some point, so probably not really worth getting mad about it if your splitter can be fitted.

If your splitter can't be fitted, I'd advise fighting for a completely new front bumper/parts.

Holy crap - I think it was over $2k at one point but looks like it's about $300? That seems cheap but hey, cheap replacement parts!

Maybe buy another one just to have!

Sorry to see this but you really should have noted the damage when you signed off on delivery. I know you would prefer not to get into a legal battle but they likely would have paid the claim as it is obvious transport damage.

How are you going to register the car there?

I was reading about an EU lawsuit since RO was charging VAT for imports although you paid it when its bought elsewhere in the EU and it can't be charged again. Also read many getting Bulgarian plates to circumvent the issue but now police cracking down.

I hope the protest's are successful and you guys can finally be free from all the bull shit and be like every other european.

That looks like a new bumper or at min plastic weld the tabs back and reinforce them. My dealer broke my rear bumper at my last service cost was roughly $300-USD plus paint and new vinyl rally stripes.

Looking up the front bumper cost using my shelby VIN# is roughly the same price for the front however you will have the added freight charge to europe. You might be better off ordering from a New York or Houston TX Ford dealer close to port and pay the import duties. Or see if they can use DHL where they will just deliver it handling everything. I've bought some Porsche european spec. M030 suspension parts from Belgium and for whatever reason there was never questions on documents or import taxes it just showed up at my door.

Bumpers never match the body due to the different substrate material metal vs. plastic. The car body is usually statically charged at the factory since its a bare shell and paint applied by the robots this helps with VOC's and waste from over spray. The plastic bumpers can not be charged but can be hung upside down with the painted side down and sprayed to eliminate dirt. A lot of dealer options like spoilers are considered port options and are painted in a non-factory environment at the distribution centers before the cars get loaded and go out to the dealer lots. Most factory paints have a lot of orange peel that helps reflect light so you think it matches or its close but its not.

Bottom line is paint is now rocket science but still can't match between metal and plastic substrates unless a human takes the time to make it match by testing a spraying a different hue for the bumpers. Which won't happen unless you own an exotic and/or pay heavily for the labor. Turn and burn shops won't bother and insurance work never pays them reasonably because they are offered volume to offset.

AndreiD has the advantage that in europe they don't crash like we do since drivers licenses are expensive and can take a long time to get. In germany the cost is $2000euros and most ppl use public transportation anyways. Less volume of repair means better quality I'm sure the GT350 will end up in a good shop. His only problem will be to wait 30days for the paint to reach peak hardness or ask for it to go through another 20min bake treatment in the booth so he doesn't easily get rock chips on the fresh paint. Clear bra also can not be put on fresh paint and he'll have to wait.

I was thinking the same thing. I told the transporter yesterday, as I confronted them and as they admited the mistake, that the only way to "fix" this is to have the car brought in for service and try to mount the splitter. If the spliter is positioned correctly without a problem then I'm willing to forget it, if not, I told them to be prepared to cash up, although that would be a big hassle for me too.

I have to import the parts through the same German dealer, have them shipped here, bring the car in for service :frusty:, dissasamble the front fascia, assable the new one, disassable again, paint it, assamble etc :doh:

So here's to hoping the splitter will be mounted properly without too much of a hassle :cheers:

Come to think, I was hoping to do it myself...now I'm not touching that :tsk:

Woha! Thanks for the link...but what is the part exactly?

The title says front bumper cover and the part no is 17D957 but on the picture there is no such part with that no.

+1 man! Don't risk transport or having it driven by somebody else for that short road.

I even considered driving it 2000km back home, but was afraid of full blowin winter conditions throughout the roadtrip.
