Going to be picking up an AOS in the near future and wanted to hear about your experiences with the different options on the market.

I also spent an hour tonight reading through all the AOS threads on this forum. Here's my summation of past discussions on each of the major options:

Ford Performance Air-Oil Separator
+ Looks OEM (duh) and matches the interior for warranty-warriors
+ Decent sized reservoir
+ Seems well built (aside from the hoses)
+ Mounted so it won't float or bang against the engine.
- Clunky mounting instructions (electrical harness gets orphaned if you don't drill a new hole for it)
- Design is also clunky. Have to unscrew reservoir and use a syringe to empty.
- Hoses are thin and filter may or may not be meh.
- Big issue: Version 1 isn't compatible with the FRPP Power Pack 2 CAI/Tune. It rubs against the Throttle Body. V2 doesn't have this issue.

UPR Air-Oil Catch-Can
+ Seems like the most innovative design with filter
+ Company is proactive in iterating and updating based on feedback
+ Can customize package (mounting options, better hoses, valve, color, etc)
- Some reports of leakage in the engine bay in the past
- Some complaints of unclear installation/usage instructions in the past

JLT 3.0
+ Best price of all options
+ Easy install
+ Looks good
- Consensus is that its technologically inferior to competition
- Significant volume of past complaints on quality/operation
- Small reservoir

Bob's Auto Sport Air Oil Separator
+ Solid design (first to use the bottom valve option)
+ Great build quality
+ Mounting option included
- Some people dislike mounting it near battery
- Some people contend that the elevated hoses decrease effectiveness
- Pricey

Let me know if that summary sounds on point and add any extra considerations I may have missed.

Hopefully this can serve as a resource for other S550 owners trying to get a quick download of pros/cons.

Thanks!

I have the JLT. I dump it out every now and then and it has been been working fine. Install was ridiculously easy and no issues with anything, so far. Can't comment on the other ones because I've never had them, but I've read on this forum that guys are happy with the other brands as well.

FRPP, I prefer the o.e. look and they do one for each side:

I've got the older JLT from 3 years ago (took off my F150 when I bought Mustang). No complaints. Install is easy. If you have a dealership that frowns on ANY modifications, it's real easy to swap out with original hose as needed.

I probably empty it every 2-3 weeks or so.

I went with the Ford Performance one, because I plan on keeping my car mostly stock. Plus, I should be covered for for warranty issues.

Not sure what the OP means by "Hoses are thin... ." The hoses seem to be the same style and thickness of the original hose that is removed.

Nice looking engine bay Gibbo, very clean.
Gibbo's car is my favorite! Nice car brother!!!!

I have the original JLT and it collects a lot of oil. I have considered upgrading to the 3.0 which is probably more effective.

I had the remote mount upr. I sold it for the ford racing one because the upr was annoying me to have to remove the drain plug. I kinda regret selling it now because the hose setup on the frpp one is shitty, very shitty.
I've ordered upr hoses for it so I'll soon see if it's better.

I voted for the Bob's one. I have the "Ultimate" version that uses AN fittings which look really nice, IMO. After seeing similar pics from other members, I mounted it in a different spot than the instructions say (closer to the front of the engine bay) and have no hood clearance issues.

Looks like the FRPP unit isn't compatible with the FRPP Power Pack 2 tune/CAI. Updating my list to reflect that.

UPR, Bob's and the JLT units look like the stronger investment if you plan to go that route.

That makes no sense!

I have Power Pack 3 which has same throttle body and CAI as Power Pack 2 and they separators fit fine, yeah they are bit fiddly but do fit.

I had the FR and loved the OE fit, finish, and quality. Was a bit of a PIA to empty, but worked really well. Now it doesn't fit with my PP2, so I just ordered the JLT based on the recommendation of a number of members here.

In fact, just posted my FR for sale here, but really not happy to have to sell it, because I was very happy with it.

Can't say if the JLT is good or not, because I don't have it yet, but the folks here seem to give it very good reviews, which is why I went with it.
