I'm confused. If you disconnect the engine from the wheels (clutch in) and close the throttle plate, what keeps the engine spinning? Am I missing something?
It does not close all the way. It just reduces from wide open.

I might do a WOT box if I have too. Maybe lund will eventually offer it.

I run the INJEN and I'm pretty happy with it. I bought my last year as soon as they were released. Not sure about that sound tube attachment because mine has no provision for it:shrug:.
No, no, I meant that you just put the cap on in the middle of the sound tube after removing only part of it. You don't have to yank the whole thing out and plug the firewall hole. That's much easier, IMO.

Given the closed box, filter design, and decent price/performance, I'll probably buy this intake in the spring and combine it with a real tune and my Velossa big mouth (whenever I get around to installing that...).

Why don't you buy your Lund tune, then ask Lund what CAI they recommend, end of the day they have tuned them all and I found they were quite happy to share their findings from tuning them all and what they thought was best.

When I asked them they really like the PMAS for power. When I asked them regarding PMAS or 350 CAI, they said peak power difference would be 2-3BHP in favour of the PMAS on a cold day and 2-3BHP in favour of the 350 on a warm day, simply due to IATs.

In short they said the actual difference was very minimal and because I take drive ability as most important they recommended 350 as the 105mm maf tube size is pretty optimal. :)

But order your tune and ask your tuner which one they would go with and why, they are normally quite happy to chat and discuss such things when they are not crazy busy.

I emailed AED yesterday and he said Roush, but I'm not sure he's tested the Injen. I'll do some research on it.

For me the Injen was the perfect intake I realise where the filter connects is a 90 degrees angle, which just makes no sense to do that. The air come from the filter should be as straight as possible, hitting a 90 degree right angle after the filter is just a big case of :shrug::shrug::shrug:

Go Roush or 350, they are built well, fit like a glove and get the job done. :)

You have to remember the biggest part is the tune, the CAI's have so little in it and you will never beat the drive ability of the stock air box with just a panel filter.

I'm with ya, and I'll probably end up doing that. I may just use the idea of removing half of the sound tube and capping it like Injen recommends. Shouldn't be too hard to find a plastic cap.

Good point on the 90-degree bend. It initially appealed to me because I ran this filter in the stock airbox on my S197:

1zyd4hz.webp

Opening up my side grille, my tuner said he found that this setup was 95% as effective as an aftermarket intake without IAT issues from an open inlet or metal tube. Thus, the Injen seemed to be another iteration of this concept, though a straight path, as found on the GT350/ROUSH, might very well be preferable. I emailed AED and will wait for any feedback. Thankfully, time is on my side, so I'm open to going through the research process. Alternatively, if two companies want to give me their intakes for free, I'll dyno both, back to back :)

My tuner said the straighter the airflow the better, and a sealed box under pressure is superior to an open element. Sounds like the Injen box is out!

What's left? aFe and Airaid? Some people mentioned Airaid lost power in another thread. Will have to research further.

If you want BHP figures on a dyno buy open element like PMAS, it the dyno queen and does OK at quarter mile.

You want best of both worlds then Roush CAI or GT 350 CAI and will give very similar results to PMAS.

Want the best drive ability, but sacrifice some horses whilst on a dyno then the stock intake, panel filter, velossa big mouth with mishimoto tube will be an unbeatable combination for drive ability and power on the road due to RAM AIR effect the stock air box can create.

Nothing drives nicer than stock air box, FACT. Yes a CAI will show more power on a dyno and a good one is worth a tenth or two in the quarter.

Ideally the perfect CAI would be:
- Sealed but as large as possible box to fit in that area.
- Same cone filter inside as PMAS uses (oiled).
- Straight path from filter to maf sensor.
- Maf tube diameter 100-105mm "tune required" with no sound tube connector
- Made out of same plastic as OEM or rubber/silicon
- A really huge hole cut in the heatshield with a snorkel that seals against the heatshield and the duct in the bumper.
- Velossa big mouth and open up LHD side of grill to RAM AIR into it with momentum

Unfortunately right now no one makes such a CAI, Afe is close but has no removable insert and Airaid is also close but again you have to dremel the insert out.

If the Afe was made with a larger 105mm maf tube it would be pretty spot on.

But as said previous the tune is the biggest player, why not for now save your money and just get the tune and a panel filter for stock air box.

Yes, potentially. I am running a K&N filter that came with the PP1 package, so that's in there already. I also have the Velossa and a GT350 snorkel, but haven't installed them yet. We'll see. I would like to try an intake. Shame there doesn't seem to be an ideal option at the moment. I suppose one could always take the Roush or PMAS and work to mock up a better box, or a closed box. Isn't the PMAS heat shield just a crappier version of the JLT?
