It surprises me how little people think about things before buying a car. You know roughly the delivery times so would order around 7 months before April to be sure. Then had the issue of whether the first year 2017 road tax is included in the price - so some haven't even calculated what they are going to pay after ordering. Others are then getting ripped off on the three year service plan by dealers, when it clearly states the price in the Ford brochure (maybe not for the initial buyers but does now).

All this relies on the government not changing the rules or increasing the road tax to this band of cars more than the others in the years to come

I must admit I did think of this when I got mine way back in May, but thought a lot could happen between these dates and you could end up not even owning one, so picked her up and the fun and enjoyment I have had over these months has been phenomenal and worth every penny and if I was in your position today I would be collecting her as soon as possible as a lot can happen in three months

I hope the OP is not under the misapprehension that these mass produced cars are an investment because in a couple of years time when the waitlist has gone and the used prices have crumbled then years of tax advantage will be of little significance.Don't forget that the new tax bands could be dropped and there is no rule I know of that guarantees that existing owners will be unaffected.

However when they are selling used for £7k then the tax break may help get rid of it but now that OPEC are forcing up the price of oil they could be practically unsellable anyway.

My car landed in the UK yesterday and I won't be collecting until April 1st, When I ordered the car it was scheduled to arrive in March anyway so wasn't a big deal.

I won't be my daily car, and would do so few miles in January - March with other events and work commitments that I don't see the benefit in an registering now - On the rare occasion the weather is worth it in Scotland I'll take the TVR out.

Also gives a chance to get my modifications done prior to receiving the car.

You'll wait till April to collect your MY17 car and within a few months the MY18's will arrive anyway!

I lucked out with my MY17 car as it was made within a couple of weeks of the production run. Why not cancel the order, order a new one now and come August/September you'll have a 2018 model!

Can't believe you are even thinking about waiting. If you really want the car you'll pick it up now. If it's an investment then you'll be sadly disappointed. Bean counting is no substitute for rev counting !

Given the weather, the unknowns.. I'd not leave it in a car park (or anywhere) that I couldn't oversee it. Seems a waste really, but that's an opinion and nothing more.

I'm happy that my tax bracket gives me 4/5 years of ownership before the benefits come in to play (and I couldn't care less anyway).

It's three years. But if you couldn't care then that's another matter.

Can't believe we've ended up having this debate tbh, since when is buying a 5litre muscle car a 'head' decision ffs, it's all about the 'heart':headbang:

I agree, it's waste of time having these debates. Everyone has their own opinion and are not going to change it, just a waste of bandwidth.

Fully appreciate why you would wait until April but couldn't do it myself. Couldn't live with the months of someone else not looking after my car before I even collected it. I also don't believe its going to make a huge difference on resale as the kind of person that's going to be in the market for a 5.0 isn't going to worry too much about the tax.

Feel free not to contribute then:)

I see in the original pic that the dealership have already started to muck the car up by fitting the front numberplate plinth... I wonder how many scrapes, scratches and dinks it'll be showing by April:eyebulge:
