Getting intermittent problems with esc warning/service required setting light.

Start to drive the car up the drive and ESC warning light comes on
the hill start is then not working, you can't set driving mode or steering mode.
So you then stop the car restart engine and its all back to normal

I have taken car into dealers, they checked it through diagnostic, checked some type of sensors etc, but could find no problem :headbonk:

this has happened 6/8 times over the last Six months,

Anyone else come across this ?

I'd be pointing at an ABS/Wheel speed sensor for the fact it is intermittent.

Out of interest, do the tyres ever leave the ground whilst going up the drive? Like is it at an angle and as you come up it, the cars wheels come off, ESC will probably have a hissy fit if that happens.

Chances are one of your sensors are fooked, loose wiring, short circuiting, loose connector etc.

My drive way does this, never an issue.

For the ABS error to illuminate due to a wheel on the car not rotating you have to drive several yards and go quite quick.

So it won't be that. :)

Can't help but think its probably more of a mechanical/electrical issue rather than one of geography ;)

As to the OP, I have not seen anything like that so far...touch wood.

I had the exact same one time after flashing a new tuning map. I just flashed the map again and it was all good, never had the issue again. So maybe just try to reset the ECU  (disconnecting the -pole of the battery for 30' if I'm not mistaken. Correct me if I'm wrong)

Tried the battery disconnect, been through the diagnostic route, no luck

Does anyone have a technical contact at Ford who I can get any sense from?

pm if you prefer.

Long shot I know, but with your Ford connections I thought you would have a direct line :ford:
I'd just go straight to Andy and be a whiny bitch.... Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr raise a complaint with the CRC, ask to be put to a complaints handler, then ask to have the complaint raised/escalated.

@welsh_treg did you ever get to the bottom of this? I got the same warning this morning..."hill start assist not available", "ESC service required" and one other which I can't remember. This came up after having the car running for a few minutes. Engine off/back on and drove for an hour with no problems, hill start assist seems to work as well - just tried it on my drive which is slightly sloped.

Not ideal as I head up for Scotland today! Bear in mind as well I had my springs installed only on Monday...

No had no luck with this, having said that it has not happened the last month or Two, last time it happened I didn't stop and kept driving with warning light on, which then re set itself within 400/500 yards.

My best guess is the sensor for tyre pressure, or electrical gremlin,
Its booked in at the dealers next week to be looked at, I don't expect anything to be found, just covering myself, and that its noted with ford before 12 months are up, also they are supposed to be replacing my puddle lights (if they ever turn up)
