Why would I spend more when the GT PP doesn't give me anything I need above and beyond the base GT? When I purchased a Mustang GT rather than buying a 1LE a couple years ago that was my decision. I was thinking about the 1LE, but I liked the Mustang better. I didn't want the extra options on the GT. I thought the base GT was perfect for me. That's (partially) why the SS doesn't sell. It's too expensive.

If you were really impartial you wouldn't compare a car with add-ons to a base car.
Well that's your wants and needs. I agree that Chevy should have offered a model with a V8 without all the goodies. Comparing the base GT to a 1SS gives the mustang a price advantage and the Camaro a performance advantage.

The Mustang has a major price advantage and the Camaro has a slight performance advantage - one that I for one wouldn't even notice. I would notice the difference in my bank account though.

The only thing I wish my Mustang had more of is less weight. What GM did with the Camaro is outstanding in terms of weight reduction, I had hoped Ford would have got the lard out of the Mustang with the S550. If they succeed in knocking 250-300 pounds out of it with the next generation I'm a sure upgrader, but if the car is still a fat-ass like it is now I'll be looking elsewhere. And I want a V8, not some turbo'd crap sounding V6!
The Camaro weighs around 60lbs less than a loaded up premium GT, it's not that significant and I'm sure with just a few pieces Ford could easily lose that much weight. The Camaro didn't lose much weight from the Mustang, it lost a lot of weight from it's own chassis.

We don't even know the performance advantage of the SS vs base GT. My guess is it's huge on a track. But again, 8 do wish Chevy offered an SS below the 1SS. Maybe called the LSS lol.

I guess it depends on what you value as far as cost. The SS and GTPP are $1000 apart. So is more HP, near 100lbs less weight and better handling worth only a $1000 or is it more? I do agree Mustang has a cheap base model and Chevy should of done the same for a starter car, but apples to apples there $1000 apart. When the my18GT comes out and it has similar numbers performance wise with the SS and keep the price the same, then I totally agree.
Where did you come up with $1,000 apart?

My guess is that if I drove the two cars on different days I wouldn't be sure which one was faster around the track. I'd bet even back to back I wouldn't be sure. That's not a huge difference. Not like one of the cars is even 3% faster or something. Definitely not a 5% difference. The only seat of the pants difference a GT owner would feel is a thicker wallet.

Because a GTPP and 1SS is about $1,000 apart. It's the closest we can get to performance and price.
What it really comes down to is, the camaro isn't offered with a base model. It sounds kind of odd, but that is really what's going on. Does anyone remember the base v8 camaro yesteryear….aka the z28?

As much as GM folk like to bad mouth the base GT stereo appearance, it's amazing how many people choose it over the premium. Likewise, many ostracize the GT for how soft rides, but again…a majority will never exploit the stock suspension, let alone the performance pack. Many more chose the GT because of its softer ride over the performance pack. There are just more options out there for the mustang that fit’s consumers price points and performance expectations. If you don’t want the touchscreen radio, you aren’t forced to pay for it. If you want a slightly more supple ride, you aren’t forced into the performance suspension package.

Go drive an SS and GT back to back and you'll notice a clear difference in performance, especially in the low-mid range.

It's getting deep. Your saying there isn't much of a difference in performance from a base GT with 245-18" all season tires with 4 pot front and single pot rear generic brakes on very soft suspension to a car with 245/275 performance tires on 4 pot Brembo brakes with high performance suspension that weighs less and has more power. That's just plain blind fan boy right there. So I guess all the guys with the GTPP wasted there money from what you said.:headbonk:

Agree to disagree Hack. There is a pretty big difference between a non PP and SS. We have both here at the dealership. I get to drive them back to back. Big difference. I do like the non PP though. It's pretty comfortable.

There is a big difference in measurable performance. To just jump in a car and drive both on American streets. Average Joe wont "Feel" a ton of difference in every day driving. The numbers don't lie to people who race both.

...I just can't get over that they put AC vents right in front of the shifter for your hand to freeze off.

They don't want you to sweat too much and loose grip of the shifter due to the neck breaking performance and adrenaline rush! They put so much thought into that design. Its so ingenious:lol:
