Track Pack to R Spoiler Conversion

Has anyone done this successfully? What did you do with the holes in the center of the trunk?

I know one of the companies that sell the spoiler came up with a plastic piece that you attach there, but thats not something I would do. I'm curious how the holes can be plugged and if this requires full paint of the trunk and paint blending?

My car is race red and painting the whole thing would not be something I want to do.

It would be easier if your car has the strips. One hole is on the left strip and two holes are on the right strip. I used molding clay and tape beneath to fill the hole try to make the surface as flat and smooth as possible than apply the strips or vinyl over it. It looks ok for me. Although I ordered a new carbon fiber trunk lid so I can do it perfectly without holes and shave the weight.

On a serious note, anyone who's done it has either had the holes filled by body shop/repainted, or just bought a new trunk.. pretty much your only options.

EDIT: post directly above has a DIY solution if you're into that, but it would probably bug me seeing that imperfection in the stripe haha

Do you know how the body shop fill the holes? I dont and I have no idea how this is done. If you can point me in the right direction it would be great.

Getting a new trunk isnt any different than filling the holes as far as paint is concerned, both have to be repainted and paint blended with other panels. That means all the vinyl strips have to come out from roof and bumper.

The problem with the vinyl is also I believe Ford does not sell pieces of it right? So you have to order the entire thing which costs $$$$ (as per some post here in the forum). Otherwise I would fill the holes like the poster above and apply the vinyl on top and be done with it. No one will ever see this.

I dont think its a wise idea to paint blend a race red car especially that area with so much black plastic in trunk etc. doing it right will probably cost $1000-$1500 on top of the cost for the spoiler and the vinly strip. So now you are out about $4000 minimum.

Might as well trade the car in and pay a tad more for an R and get CF wheels extra hahaha

There is another option for anyone capable of making the components:
I took the easier route, and better in my opinion. I added a 4th brake light, made a nylon housing, adapted an LED strip and the housing has a silicone seal between it and the trunk that covers all the holes.
Some people like it, some people don't; I really don't give a crap what people think. I feel much safer with this mod since I have a car that can stop quicker than most cars on the road. That 4th brake light is the brightest light on the rear of my GT350.
I would rather replace the trunk lid than getting the holes filled. With todays paints and the color matching technology, I have no problem with matching color on a single body component.

Thanks, I saw that thread but that center piece looks really awful and out of place.

I have been googling to see what kind of material I can use myself to fill the holes and whether there is a cost of effective way of just getting the small vinyl strip that goes on the trunk so I can only reinstall that piece. I think that is the best/least invasive solution with minimal risk.

And to be OT - Just so everyone understands - you want it to look as good as paint but you don't want someone to paint it, right? On top of that, you want to be able to do it yourself but you don't want to paint it, correct?

IMO, anything I've seen other than paint is a little half-assed but the easiest solution I've seen is the body-colored plugs to fill the holes. I'd look for a low-profile version of those plugs and then stripe over them - hardly noticeable.

Let me just say this: I want to do this right, but I dont want to go crazy in terms of $$$$.

I cannot spend $3000 on top of the spoiler to install this.

As you can see, I'm a bit lost and it seems like there has only been less than a handful of people who attempted this. Please note that the tech pack spoiler doesnt have the holes so more than half of the R spoiler threads online dont really qualify.

If I can find a way to just order that tiny piece of vinyl from ford without it costing arm and a leg, I can just fill the holes with something (maybe even epoxy?), smooth it with polish and just put the vinyl stripe on it. Thats probably the best solution.

Or

If a body shop can paint that area under the stripes without having to paint the entire trunk or without blending the paint, that could work too.

Exactly what I'm thinking of doing. Plus I get to keep my factory trunk lid with the track spoiler attached still! What manufacturer are you going with?
