I will do this and most likely go with a brand new trunk lid.

I do want to point out that this is not a conversion. The only thing I really liked from R is the wing (and the resonator). You all know I had a number of opportunities to buy an R at a very good price. Its not like I couldnt afford an R and now I m trying to make my car look like an R.

I just could not daily the R with that front splitter. Even with the measly base splitter I am having several moments every day. I m guessing if I had the other one it would have been in pieces by now.

The only reason I am not doing this now is because I am trying to do some research on how to carry over the bits and pieces from lid to the other lid. I am also trying to see if a shop can make a custom stripe for that piece since my stripe is very simple white stripe.

Things I will change in this car:

- Wheels: Because I want to use the current wheels as snow set
- Spoiler: Because I always wanted a car with big ass wing which I can see from rear view mirror
- Shifter: Because my shifter rattles a lot and I dont like how much play there is and it is getting worse by the day (due to my aggressive shifting habits)

Thats it. I wont touch anything else.

Oh I might end up upgrading the headlights because my god do the headlights suck right now. I gotta be honest with you, the headlights is the only thing I miss from my M5. The difference between two headlights is like those old flip cell phones vs iphone 7.

The entire argument of keeping the car stock and original only hurts resale if you cannot convert the car back to stock or if you dont provide the ability to the future buyer to do so. If you tell them you have the original trunk and its a 5 minute plug and play to revert back, why would he care? In fact he would love it because its a spare trunk in case something happens!:)

I like clones - or at least taking some parts that function well from a higher model to improve your car. I don't really like taking badges and applying them to the lower car, but other cool visual cues like the original '65 Shelby front end without the bumper I do like. So I guess to me the half-XXX or partial clone is what I like. To me it's similar to the idea of modifying a car to improve the performance. It's hot rodding and I like that.

I would love the R rear wing on my car, and maybe someday I will do it. I think they are beautiful and I know they function well. I think as the cars get a few years old most buyers will be less interested in originality and more interested in performance and/or looking good. I don't think adding an R wing will hurt the value of the car much in the next 5-10 years.

The R wing is truly beautiful. It is a work of art. And it is very unique.

I will throw this in here for anyone close with the interest. I have my OEM Non-drilled Magnetic decklid that I would be interested in working a deal for a factory magnetic/Track pack wing setup. Cash from my side, of course.

This way, another magnetic owner would have correct OEM paint and also be able to drill holes/apply the stripes to their own liking. All at a much lower cost. Could be a win win for the right situation.

I agree. Clones suck.
So do kit cars. I have no interest in cobra kit cars or anything else along those lines. Like a Pontiac Ferrari.
lol @ Pontiac Ferrari.

Backdraft Racing makes some pretty nasty AC Cobras :) I wouldn't mind one of those in my garage in the next year or two.

But that is my only exception as far as kit cars, etc goes.

Lol Voodoo with the Pontiac Ferraris.

I, as an R owner, have no care to clone a Base/TeP/TrP... ;)

And I as a TP owner have no care to clone an R. I prefer the look of the spoiler vs the wing and the subdued calipers vs the bright ass red. Yeah I know the wing has more down force in conjunction with the larger splitter and that these are some of the reason for faster times albeit largely due to the tires. However, I am a mere mortal and probably only hitting 8/10ths of my car if I am being honest. So I would very likely never use the full potential and capabilities of the R components, minus the tires of course.

Depending upon where you're at, and what color you have, it may still be doable. I don't daily my car so having a decklid back on the car is not an immediate concern.

You may want to check eBay or roush or places like Saleen. Sometimes they have take off parts.

As another mere mortal, I like the idea of more down force on the rear to help prevent severe and sudden over steer.

Try car-part.com for the decklid, there is at least one race red painted takeoff in as-new condition for $920 available.
