Ok everyone....Why did you pick the Shelby over the S550?

I finally figured out why I like the Shelby better. It's the lower front fascia, especially the area around the fog lamps. To me, the Shelby's just looks cleaner and more menacing. I like how the vertical splitters are slanted inwards vs the S550 being outwards.

I'm not much of a gearhead and I know the Shelby is probably purchased more by those who race. But give me some info...what, to you, makes the Shelby a better purchase?

The colors for MY 18 are great - Kona Blue or Lightning blue? that would be a tough choice. Ford's always had the best color palette, then Dodge. Chevy needs to offer more colors for our cars.

First off, I did not purchase the car because it is a Shelby. What I did purchase is a GT350 and the performance heritage that comes with it. Second, I am not quite a track rat but I frequent the track. Ford had to make a product worthy of the GT350 name and heritage. And in the track, this car is a beast!

Ford stole me away from BMW (4 in a row) with the Shelby, as I think they have done with many others.. guys who want an engaging driving experience in a "premium" or "special" wrapper who wouldn't necessarily look at something like a GT (especially after test driving a new 2011 and being completely underwhelmed). The engine sells itself, especially when BMW have made themselves vulnerable with the new M4 being technically brilliant but having the exhaust note of a Pontiac Bonneville on adderall.

So far I am absolutely in love with the Shelby and have had more conversations with car guys in a week of driving it than I did in literally 2 years of driving a top spec 335i.. and have had more fun driving it too. I've been a Euro guy since I was 17 and rebuilding Porsche 944 engines in my garage.. 2 Porsches, 4 BMWs and a VW.. but deeper than that I am a car guy, and I have to follow what my guts tell me. This time it was the Shelby and it was a must have. I bought it sight-unseen after only sitting in another GT350, and after delivery it has only exceeded my expectations.

It's an amazing, amazing car and managed to hit the perfect niche at the right time. Ford absolutely killed it with the GT350.

I'm not much of a gearhead and I know the Shelby is probably purchased more by those who race. But give me some info...what, to you, makes the Shelby a better purchase?

Start with a S550 - potentially a pretty good car already - and put a tighter focus on the driving part. Not just by adding big power, bring the cornering/handling and braking up to par as well.

When you come right down to it, driving on the track at an HPDE (what I suspect that most of us who get out on the big tracks are involved in, as opposed to wheel-to-wheel competition) isn't a whole lot different than taking a brisk ride down your favorite deserted, twisty country road. Only faster, and with no risk of attracting official (read: expensive) roadside interviews. Even when you're driving a track-intentioned car at barely a third of its potential, it'll still be more satisfying than driving its less-focused cousin at a third of its, if that makes any sense.

I bought a 2015 5.0 after seeing pictures of the 350. I was not sold on it for the price.
I then saw one in person. The power, the looks, the sound. Trading in the next week when MSRP presented itself.

Personally I think the car is still too heavy despite how much I love it. I think a good spot to have done the deed was use the carbon composite material for the roof.

I rewatched a Faster Horse on Netflix the other day and I realized the first time around I missed the part how pissed off Dave Pericak was about the weight increases.

"We're supposed to be touting performance and fuel economy and we add 50 plus pounds to the weight of the car?! *epic facepalm*"

Looking at the GT the GT350 actually looks quite a bit better to me, the small changes complete the car.

While the GT looks good I dont think I like it enough to buy it.

Never gonna happen and Jamaal and team was very adamant about that. It would lose focus as a product. Plus the GT350 we're guessing is most likely done after MY '17

Ford Performance is not going to add another 100+ lbs to the weight of the Shelby, effectively bring its curb weght to 3900 lbs. Its purpose was a race ready road going Mustang. Light weight components, chassis rigidity, braking performance, handling and feel. Another 100lbs plus losing the rigidity of a coupe doesn't fit the profile of the GT350.

And again, Jamaal Hameedi already said that a convertible idea was ousted almost immediately during design because of these criteria.

I don't consider my 2017 as a "Shelby". I see it as a GT350 and I bought it because of the reviews and sound of the engine. This is my 4th Mustang.
