Hey guys,

I have 28,XXX miles on my Mustang and am getting consistent squealing from my Brembos. Used to be only when I was at low speeds, but now it squeals any time when I depress the brakes to a certain point. After doing some research it seems like this is part of owning performance brakes like the Brembos. However, this squealing only started after 20,XXX miles, so that seems odd.

But whatever, I'm on here looking for pad recommendations. Anyone have any? A shop recommended I get the Hawks, but I can't see where they make pads compatible with the Brembos.

I have suggested to numerous people to ensure their wheels are tightened up front to 150 ft. lbs. and their squeaking went away every time. Could be luck...

If you are doing track work, Z23 pads are not what I'd want on the car. Too many reports of them becoming mush after the first few laps.

Easy enough to switch pads if you go to an HPDE event, though.

Hmm.. I did notice an increase in noise after changing my wheels, but I used a torque wrench at 150 lbs ft. I'll try again tonight and see what happens when I go to work tomorrow.

Are you currently running these pads? $80 for both front and rear is pretty incredible to think about! I want the stopping power, but I'm really freaking tired of the dust!

Can anyone share the correct part # for these pads?

Actually, while I am here, does anyone know the minimum rotor thickness too? Is it written on the rotor? (I have swapped pads for track days, but never thought to check for that!)

Are they holding up better than the OE PP pads?

Thus far, we have had decent luck with the OE pads, as well as the Carbotech stuff.

If the Z23s hold up as well as the OE stuff, I may grab a set for when I change out to the BAER rotors.

There's a few people in Atlanta S550s running these and they like them. None have gone to track day (like HPDE or autocross - not drag racing which doesn't use brakes) that I'm aware of - or at least none have reported how they were at said track day. But all say no brake dust and they say they stop the same as stock, so daily... fine. None of them have had the pad on for long enough to answer your question, though, but... common, it's a brake pad. For $80 for all 4 wheels, if it doesn't last as long as the ridiculously expensive dusty pads from FoMoCo... who cares? I have a set on order for daily just because I literally will wash the car, then go to XYZ car thing, and by the time I get there... I'm cleaning my f'ing wheels again. I hate having to drive like a granny somewhere the car will be "shown" to avoid using brakes and causing brake dust... it's kind of ridiculous.

I have used the Z23 pads on my Subaru Legacy at HPDE back when I had that car and they turned to mush halfway through the session, especially later in the day when I got familiar with things and I was able to brake later. I did one HPDE with those pads and never went to a track event again with them installed, they just didn't feel right. I didn't have Brembo-grade brakes, just whatever the car had on it.

I suppose I should have gotten their Z26 but it is the same pad material, just a metal backing instead of rubberized, which apparently allows it to handle higher temps. I remember putting Hawk HPS something or other pads on after that and really liking them, but I just went to their site and they don't seem to have a P/N for my Legacy, so maybe I'm not remembering right. Don't make anything for our Brembo's either... :(

Yeah, I am specifically talking about track day stuff with 10-20 minute sessions on a 1.5 mile course with 11~turns.

One of our cars pushes the OE pads past their limits on the Hoosiers, but the other...is catered to the everyday Joe on 285 street tires. The OE pads work decently on that one.

I haven't maxed out the OEM pads (but they did lost a lot of material after my HPDE). I haven't used anything more than the OEM Pirelli PZeros / Cooper Zeons at a track at this point. They certainly do fine with "street tires". I've never gone to HPDE with anything more than an "Extreme Performance Summer Tire", if I'm honest. Simply can't afford the "track wheels" let alone the "track tires" anymore. I'd get Carbotech or G-Loc if I was running Hoosiers or similar sort of tire for sure. I would NOT get Powerstop's Z23 or Z26 - Powerstop does make a "Track Day" pad for our cars... not sure how it performs but its relatively inexpensive so I may try it if I get to a point where I can scrounge up enough money to visit tracks more often and get officially advanced above "Intermediate" (instructor for first couple sessions; solo after... whatever your local flavor calls it) which is as high as I have ever been classed into (only been to like 4 HPDE's in my life with a 4-5 year gap between my last one with the Mustang and my Subaru so... probably best I stay low in the totem pole, haha).

I just had the Z23s installed and they don't seem to bite as hard as stock but like others, I'm not doing any tracking events so dust is my main concern.
