Rain on Track Attack Day?!

So I'm heading out to SLC for my Track Attack day this Sunday/Monday (Sunday dinner, Monday track) and it's RAINING :doh: Monday!!

So bummed!!

Has anyone had any experience in the rain during their Track Attack session? If so what should I expect?

Yes, it's a green light... hot track whether wet or dry. Milder pace and you work on your lines... anyway, your last session is the one that's really open solo lapping w/ pointby passing on the front straight. Hopefully by then it'll be dry (or much drier).

Wet is better for driver development, dry is better for going fast. If you can't pick, just settle in for what you got.

Just be glad its not 95 like it was for me.

Don't be bummed at all!!! You will be surprised just how fast you can push the car in the wet. It will also force you to be on your toes.

Ok great thanks all. I'm pretty comfortable on a track since I've done many days in my other car the STI. But this will still be good to work on lines, that can never hurt especially on a new track! Actually that's also a good point, since I just need to get comfortable with the car in general on a track environment. Should stop raining in the afternoon on Monday for me, fingers crossed.

Also, I've done a track day in the rain in the GT350. It's definitely a fraction of the fun. The MPSS's were not too grippy in the rain and it was very easy to find the limits.

Same here. Had rain in April for the first half of the day. Had a great time regardless. It dried up in time for the last few track sessions.

yes it did. and it was glorious.
That's a day I won't forget. I'd taken my 18 yr old son as my +1 and he was in one of the school cars. He'd done a few car control classes at Skippy and some auto-x, but it was his first day on track. I was trying not to overload him with info and, given that I had no idea it might get wet later in the day, we didn't talk about stuff like staying off of the racing line in rain to find grip. I was following him in that last session and was super surprised at how quick he was...then that rain starting falling and my heart sank...

Not to worry, though, everyone got through it with no issues...all good. And a great learning experience. Don't fear the rain. Just do what you should always do on the track, adjust your driving the situation.

We had a little rain during my day in Utah and what I noticed was the painted surfaces got very slippery. In some corners I thought the faster line used some curbing when it was dry, but I think in the wet you want to stay off.

If you are a beginner I think rain can be good, because it slows things down. There is a lot to do on the track and a lot of things to remember. Having things happen a little more slowly has helped me immensely in the past.

Hopefully it will just be a little damp and you won't have a torrential down pour. I'm sure whatever happens it will still be fun.

I don't think you're going to have a bad time either way. If you're new to all this(as I was), you'll still be able to test your personal limits in any weather. Overall, the experience was absolutely amazing, even with the limited on-track time we do get(wanted it to never end).

I think you can learn a lot more about the car and your limits at a track day with rain. Take it in stride and make the most of it.
I did a track day in the rain on my motorcycle at Road America and learned a hell of a lot. Try going 130 mph in the pouring rain on a bike and coming in hot to corners all day long.
