So a neighbor was having their roof done and the guys left some nails in the road. I caught one in the rear tires. I have a few questions.

I intend to call them in the morning to see what they say...but I talked to one of these guys while they were here and I got a kinda of a-hole vibe...so not sure what they will say about this.

IF they don't want to take care of it - I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about their permit. They haven't been paid yet because final inspection hasn't been completed. Thinking if I call the city, they can do something. Not sure.

On to the actual getting it fixed questions. I know the correct way to do it is a patch...BUT I'm thinking about mitigating the risk of pulling a tire off the CF wheels by just using a plug. I've used plugs on "regular" tires with good luck in the past.. I understand that many speed rated tires will lose their speed rating regardless of what repair is performed. Where can I find this information about the SC2s?

In the end, I know it's $500+...I don't want to pay it out of pocket for a mistake made by someone else...sigh.

You need to replace it. I understand your pain. It has happened to me three times. Don't patch high performance low profile tires.

Is there any literature from Michelin that says this? If so, it could be useful when I call the roofer tomorrow.

A city or county inspector will be of no help. You're better off taking it up with your neighbor.

If it's just for street use plug/patch is fine IMO.

That's the problem....and the reason I'm going to try to get them to foot the bill for a new tire. I'm planning to do an HPDE before the end of the year...and intended on beating up these tires pretty good.

I just did a temp plug myself a few minutes ago so my wife can get comfortable driving it to work this week (about 10 miles at 45mph)... She wanted to get some seat time before going to Track Attack in two weeks.

Depending on location of the nail, there is no issues patching a tire. I tracked my 997S with a patched 305/30/19 rear tire until I hit the tread bar. I wouldn't plug it..

Do a plug patch. They fuse to the tire anyway so it's not like it's just wedged in the hole. Done properly, you'll be fine on the track.

If it's in the most outer or inner tread block though, don't do it and you'll unfortunately have to replace the tire.

Plug or patch. Either will be fine. I have 2 plugged super sport spares that I'd use in a heart beat.

I just plugged a screw hole in my super sport rear tire. I realize that isn't exactly what the MFR recommends, but it is convenient and Ive had great results using plugs over many years.

I understand how everyone here is perfect and does it all by the book.

For the record I did patch and plugs for quite some time.

About 3 years ago I started using the plug kit only from my auto store.

I've used it 3 times on my work truck which require 80psi. That along with 2k pounds of payload and towing 10k pounds every month I've had zero issues.

I've also used them on my previous track car with zero issues as well.

plug/patch

You are overthinking this. Unless someone intentionally took a hammer and pounded a nail into your tire, no one is responsible for this repair except you. Plug/patch, done. Seriously, contemplating going after someone's permit over this... who is the a-hole. Not trying to be a jerk but put yourself in their shoes.

Word. If you trip over a crack in your neighbors sidewalk you gonna go after his house too?

Plug the bitch and be done. Never heard of anyone having an issue with one. My Trans Am has a plug in one of the front tires, and it's seen autocross events and 120+mph.

Real question is, Do you want to gamble a $60K car on a patched tire while on the track?

I'm sure there are plenty of people that will have stories of a patch working just fine, even on a track. But if it fails, they will be the same people blasting you for tracking a car on anything less then 100% tire tread.

Like I said, protect your $60K investment.
