"Change engine oil soon" light just came on.
Has anyone/everyone had this, my car has only done 1075 miles. Is it because my car was born around 12 months ago, albeit not registered till Dec. Ford say first service at 12000 miles or 12 months. I don't mind changing the Oil at 1000 miles, probably a good thing.
Just wondered how many others had this ?

That counter goes by time, mileage, and RPMs - algorithm. Might as well change it, but that is kind of goofy nonetheless. Do use the FoMoCo filter or better. DON'T get some cheap Fram orange filter or whatever your local oil change joint throws on.

I would go ahead and check the level to start just to make sure that it isn't a low oil warning.

I noticed mine was a quart low at ~5500 miles. My oil life meter read at 78%. But I did an oil change with a Motorcraft oil filter rather than just top it off. Better safe than sorry.

Mine just came up at 4300 miles. Car was built at Christmas and been driving since March. They should have reset them at PDI. Oil is still golden and perfect level (never had a Ford that used oil). Was going to change at 5k anyway.

Are people doing the oil change themselves or getting fords to do it ?

My car is almost 6 months old with 2900 miles on it and 17% left for oil reset.

Called into fords the other day as was there for my fiesta service and asked about them doing this. The silly girl said I would need a service at £200 and they would probably just rest the dash !!!!!

I can quite easily change the oil and filter myself but just wondering is it worth it or best of o have it logged properly with fords ?

I changed mine myself at 1500....
Light just came on at 2500 (a year after it was built) as it was missed at PDI .. and as it should only be reset when the oil is changed (or pdi) it's in today for a FREE oil and filter change!

Can an oil change be done with the front wheels on ramps or will the position mean that not all the oil will be drained.

My Ford dealer wants £240 for an oil change, the same cost as the service.

Have you got that in writing?

The UK Ford Service Portfolio booklet states Mustang, All engines, 12 months 10,000 miles

Also in ETIS download the service schedule
Mustang ETIS Interim Service Schedule 1yr 10000m
Mustang ETIS Major Service Schedule 2yr 20000m

My light came on at about 9000 miles, 7 months into ownership but the car was well over a year old by that point. So I doubt it's time based on when the car was born. Unless like previously mentioned the dealer didn't reset at PDI maybe...? Just took mine into Ford for it's first service as it conveniently fell at the right time!

At the end of the day, can't hurt to ask Ford what they think about it. They will charge the earth for an oil change though ;)

Sump plug is right at the back, and very low down, so I would say axle stands would be fine, preferable even, to being horizontal on a proper ramp.

If you're in the London area, GT101 isn't too far away http://gt101.co.uk/

That's where I'm taking mine for any servicing. They're also gonna fit my Roush axle back as dealer won't do it
