well drove her last night, All was fine plenty of oil pressure. Went out this afternoon and I have a small oil puddle under the engine. I hope its just a loose filter. Last change was about 2800 miles ago at a Ford dealer in Morgantown.

Do I just call the closest dealer and have it towed in?

If you have the means and are inclined I would see if the filter is loose myself. If so replace it and use a can of engine cleaner to get rid of the mess it surely made.

Good luck

My guess would be a loose filter, i hope whatever it is, its just a simple fix.

Flatbed came to pick it up, its at Byers Ford. Service guy took a copy of the paperwork showing a Ford Dealer changed the oil last. They were not to impressed with my desire to have it checked out quickly so it sat all day. I have been treated better servicing my sons 80s Honda. Was supposed to go out of town tomorrow, I might hold off to see if they get to it in the morning. Glad its not my only car, no rental, loaner, or offer of any sort, just a we will try to get to it when we can.

this is why you don't buy the flagship car with a shitty dealer network. You guys with good dealers are lucky.

Byers Ford just called, My leak was a loose filter. It was done by a Ford dealership, They expect me to pay 130 for a new filter, and 30 dollars for the cleanup, as well as 2 quarts of oil.

Thanks Ford.

These dealers are useless.

Do it yourself from now on. You won't have these issues from incompetent service guys.

I hear you, I actually thought using Ford would provide some semblance of security and accountability.

I even told them it needed an oil change anyway, but they never even called to confirm the activity once they knew what was wrong (like I asked). I certainly would have told them to do the full change, and I would not have expected it to be free.

imbeciles. No common sense.

It comes down to care. Nobody is going to care for your vehicle as much as you. You are the one who purchased and spent your hard earned money on it. Not some punk ass tech at some dealership. If your car loses oil and blows up he doesn't care, it doesn't affect him. You care and will take that 2nd or even 3rd look at things to make sure they are tight and done correctly. Glad you caught it before it became more of an issue.

Please excuse me if you've already given an explanation but, why didn't you take it back to the same dealer who did it?

I was out of town at a different dealership. first 2 changes were at byers so I am a known customer. Third was in Morgantown as I hit my magic number while visiting my son for a few days. We ran hard so I didn't want to go over 3k. Freedom Ford changed the oil, after 2.8k the filter came loose. I told byers I didn't know what it was, but suspected the filter. At that time I considered it a warranty issue because it could have been something else. After it was found to be the filter they implied they dont cover other dealerships work, even if it is a certified Ford dealer. Furthermore in place of doing a full change like I had asked, and fully expected to pay for they just changed the filter, and topped off my old oil. I also gave them a filter to use and they declined so they could get their 30 bucks.

They told me it was my responsibility to go after the other dealer for the re-imbursement.

Byers Ford finally called me back, after 2 messages. This is their final statement concerning the issue. Regardless of where my change was done, there is no implied Ford warranty for service. Each dealership is independent and they will not support or otherwise compensate me for the loose filter. A loose filter is not a warranty issue and regardless of the known issues with this car and vibration they will only provide a 48 dollar credit for the labor difference had I had a oil change done.

So for you guys doing the oil change at the dealer, why bother. You can get better oil, and make sure the filter it torqued yourself. There isn't really any reason to have any dealer work on your car unless your building a maintenance scrapbook for resell or you just like spending too much for cheap oil and paying 200 percent for filters.

I like to disassemble things.
Can you post up a copy of the service ticket you just received that shows that they had to fix a loose oil filter?
