Greets all,

I've had my 16 GT for almost a month now, and I have been toying with apps on the sync 3 to see what works and what doesnt, since ford's website is extremely limited in their list. I figured being a computer tech I'd see what really works.

So I decided to share my findings with you all in case anyone didnt know, Hope its useful to you guys.

Apps that work with Sync 3 (App-link):

Pandora
IHeart Auto
Sirius Xm Mobile
Spotify
Slacker Radio

One thing I noticed is if you move these to the SDcard (Some apps can be moved like Pandora) they will not link up with the sync 3, so leave them on the phone storage.

Apps that dont work:

Tunein Radio (Option was removed from their app)
Amazon Music (Programming bug crashes Amazon app during communication)

I am still toying with others, As I find more I'll post them here, and of course if you have found any post them!

Interesting. I couldn't get Sirius to go. Doesn't even show up in CarPlay. The others did as you noted. I feel like the satellite version of Sirius sounds like crap comparatively speaking to Apple Music or Spotify so hoping the app improves things... If I can get it to appear.

What I would try as for the mobile app to work is, try running the app on the phone before you start the car, then check after about a min to see if its available in sources. Also make sure in the settings of sync 3 you have enable all apps is on, this ensures I think even the apps like Spotify and Slacker thats not on the list but have the option to link connects.

If neither works, I would try clearing the cache of the app, and as a last resort uninstall and reinstall the sirius app.

But make sure the app is on the phone and not the sdcard, that seems to be an issue with it being added to the source list of the sync 3.

OK. I just loaded the app for this test but I can try dumping it/reloading it. I'm on iOS so no SD card (laaame) so shouldn't be an issue. I must have all apps on b/c Spotify appears. Maybe I can toggle it. I'll try again when it's not 104° outside. Thanks.

USB connected right? Apple CarPlay popped up when I plugged in the cable BUT I believe it can be disabled once it is enabled. iOS doesn't seem to CarPlay over BT like Android does. Look in settings.

Hi DrEverettScott,

foghat is correct in stating that the 2016 vehicles are not equipped with Apple CarPlay yet. That update is due to be released at the end of the year. When streaming apps, the iPhone must be connected with the USB, as well as, Bluetooth. Let me know if you still run into issues!

I'm so excited for the Slacker integration. I have been a slacker user for a very long time and really love their service. I could get it to work with My Ford Touch but I had to use the phone to start the app and pick or change stations so it wasn't ideal.

The best part of slacker is that for only $3.99 per month I can cache the music on my device and not use any data while I'm listening in my car. Also gets me unlimited skips and no commercials. And that works for all of my devices for the single payment. Way cheaper than Sirius.

Having used Android Auto for several days in a Rental Hyundai, I'm glad I have the option for App Link. Having to connect the cable was annoying for quick trips and for longer trips, it couldn't keep my device charged. It used more power than the usb port could provide.

I should have mentioned I dont use IPhones, I think they suck (Personal Opinion), I use an HTC One Max on AT&T which is an android all done through Bluetooth.

Funny thing is if I connect my Android with USB it does crazy things, like caches my pictures off the phone and other data, which when I am that bored I'll toy with that part :)

As far as I know all IPhones need to be usb connected to make the apps work. I really havent messed with iphones, even though I have a 5s sitting here collecting dust, maybe I'll see what I can do with the iphone to help out anyone having issues.

Ok the only way to get Amazon Music Prime app to work is by using the option "Use Bluetooth Stereo" and your steering wheel controls of back/replay and skip work, I tried using the app as far back as Feb release, and seems they all crash as soon as communication starts. I already left feedback with amazon about it.

TuneIn Radio works on my iPhone. While it doesn't have a dedicated input source, it can be controlled from the iPhone general source. I can use the forward/previous buttons to skip ads. Of course I can't change the station but it works well enough.

END OF THE YEAR now?? Seriously??

Ford has been touting Car Play since prior to the 2017MY - and the fact that all 2016 Owners would have the capabilities once the 2017's were out.

Now we have to wait until the end of the year?

Great marketing ploy (scam) to those who were told when purchasing their 2016s that Car Play was coming out shortly... Which has not happened.
