I see your plate holder is crooked too! I put a couple of washers under the drivers side mounting plate! Levelled it right up!

Let the sanding begin!! No more orange peel for Black Magic !!
That's gutsy. The factory clear can be pretty thin. My understanding is if you sand thru the clear, the color coat has to be re-shot in addition to laying down new clear.

Do you have some device that measures the clear thickness? Ones that measure the depth of all the coats combined are pretty cheap but ones that just measure the clear are mega-expensive.

Will look awesome if you pull it off.

thanx....well aware of the minuscule amount of clearcoat!! Shop did some stripe work on a Limited Edition 50th car #725 I believe! Yes, burns thru clear coat when you sneeze! I had my hood stripe painted and cleared, now it is getting blocked! Meanwhile the rest is a light sand with 2500 then 3000 then the polish! All should be good. The orange peel really shows up on the Black! Will let y'all know when I pick it up tonight! If he calls and says he needs another day......yes, he's adding base and clear somewhere!! lol

I think the reason a lot of places won't do it or quote a high price is they have to make enough to cover the times they sand thru. So the best guys might even be a bit cheaper; definitely take more home!

Can't wait to see it

I agree. I found out how thin my clear coat is the hard way :headbonk:

That has got to be the worst stripe I've seen on an S550. That small piece on the nose of the car is so far off it makes the hood look way crooked. The spears in the center look nice with the GT, but that other one is just :barf:. IMHO

Not that I'm a fan of the strip setup but the hood is not fully closed in that pic which makes the front piece look so far off.

I attempted to install my new struts, springs & sway bars... couldn't get one of the sway bar bolts back in and it turned out that the threads in the hole are boogered up  Not sure if that happened at the factory... I kind of doubt that removing the bolt would have caused the damage.
Since there is no room to get a tap handle down there, I had to weld the tap to a socket so I could use an extension handle and come in from the top of the engine bay :frusty:

The adventure continues...
