Orange Peel

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a significant orange peel effect in their paint. It's as bad as it was in 1965. I've seen other new Mustangs with much more smooth and reflective paint jobs so I'm not sure if it's mine specifically or because of the color which is CY Competition Orange.

I guess it is to get the whole effect of the competition "orange"!

I was pretty picky when I was looking at the 2015's on the lot when I first decided on a Mustang. I looked them over and 1 out of every 5 cars I could see some significant orange peel. The rear quarters seemed to have it the worst and the trunk lid. Not sure what it was about that part of the car. This is not a mustang issue though, it is a ford issue. My neighbor had a 2005 Thunderbird and it was almost painful to see the paint up close on that one. :ford:

To be honest the manu's see orange peel as acceptable - however I was pleasantly surprised at how good the paint on my '16 Race Red GT is. I was ready to do some heavy correction (I use Adam's polishes system) but to my surprise the paint was glass smooth and no swirls to be seen. :ford:

Take it to a good detail shop - most can polish/buff down the clearcoat to a smoother surface.

My GT is black, and black is the worse to show stuff like orange peel, etc. The only place it's somewhat noticeable it around the big hump above the rear wheels. It seems all S550s have more orange peel there than the rest of the car.

I had buffed and waxed my entire car, and I was actually pretty surprised how smooth the paint was - except above the rear tires, but I hand buffed it enough there (with Meguiar's Ultimate Compound & Ultimate Polish) to make it a bit better. Maybe Ford tries to make certain colors have a smoother paint job, or maybe I just got lucky and the paint robots were working good the day mine was sprayed. :shrug:

I wouldn't do much because there is not a lot of clear on these cars...

I've decided to leave it the way it came from the factory, it's not worth risking having it ruined.
