Has anyone else noticed no 2-1 downshift on their automatic? I can be going 12 mph in 2nd gear and floor it, resulting in no downshift. I actually have a datalog showing this happening. I have an unleashed tune, and Torrie was a bit stumped. He made a change (don't know what) and sent it back to me, and it didn't work. I reloaded the stock tune and it also does not have a 2-1 downshift. If I use the shift paddle it will downshift without any problem, but I have to do that to get it to work.

Why would you want a 2-1 downshift. I've got a manual and I would never drop it in 1st to floor it. 2nd is a better gear anyways and has way more pull. I can start in gear off the line and it's just fine.

Why not? First pulls harder than second in my car. I've never before had an automatic not downshift into first at WOT when it's at an appropriate speed.

I would think it would be something to have to do with the torque management...but I am not a tuner by any means.

Could be. Does everyone else's automatic ecoboost downshift from 2nd to 1st if you floor it at low speed?

It depends on the RPM.
But 13mph when you floor it it should downshift to 1st unless you are not aggressive with the loud pedal.

In the stick, you gotta be really careful. The owner's manual tells you not to even put the shifter in 1st above 19 MPH (IIRC). I know from experience (in stop and go traffic), if you put it into 1st at too high a speed, you hear lots of gear noise from the synchronizers. In my last car, I abused first a lot, (i.e. caught in rush hour, used 1st to slow down instead of brakes). The MT-82 seems to really object to this type of treatment, so I've had to unlearn some bad habits :frusty:

Thankfully that doesn't apply here, as I have the auto. I'm guilty of using the transmission as a brake when I had manuals before.

I think that's you're problem...your idea of appropriate and what Ford thinks are obviously opposed. I'd think ~13mph is a gray area of speed where the trans (programming) prevents it. Seems best to forget about it and manually shift it if that's the performance you want.

How could 12 mph possibly be a grey area? 1st gear runs up to about 40 mph in this car. Lemme rephrase the problem: The transmission will not execute an automatic 2-1 downshift ever, under any conditions. This is weird. I've never owned or even heard of an automatic-equipped vehicle that won't downshift into first gear by design.

Then it violently slams down into first gear, much less smoothly than downshifts into gears other than first.
