NEW INFO ON GT500

We STILL don't know if there is a new GT500 coming anyways, right?!?!

Ford hasn't said anything yet, and I don't think there's been the kind of proof that is incontrovertible, like video at the Nubergring of a camo'd Mustang bombing around.

AFAIK it's all supposition and "you can believe me, a friend of a friend works at Ford and he said for sure the GT500 is gonna be blah blah."

Good timing for me, actually. I still have to pay off the new truck before I can trade/sell the Roush for a new toy anyways. Perfect timing, I guess. "IF" the new GT500 does happen.

I actually think we will see the new Focus Turbo Four in the Ecoboost Mustang before the GT 500 is produced. That Focus Four would be a real hoot in a Mustang.

Timings-wise? I still think we're a way off. If there's a GT500 I'd be surprised to see it in the same model year as the facelifted "stock" S550......and we haven't really seen conclusive proof of any facelift prototypes yet, either. Even the rumoured Mach 1 mule is still sporting the current body.

If Ford want to hit some anniversary dates (which I'm not convinced they would).....you might see the GT500 as a late '18MY and then the Mach 1 as a '19MY. Which makes of mockery of us seeing that Mach 1 mule before anything GT500 related.

Good old Ford, always keeping us guessing :ford:

I've been saying this right along. Ford will stir up enough interest in Mustang with the '18 refresh. SE cars are typically used to keep the interest going and boost sales. Based on how they normally operate, I'd say that '18MY launches first, the updated GT350/GT500 comes 6mo-year later. If another SE is coming, than the Mach1/Bullitt/etc launches for '19MY. Even then, there will be 2 model years that the SE can be built over before the launch of S650; they could conceivably even have two 1-MY SE models, I suppose.

It's all just pure speculations, but here's a hint from the Q&A with Jamal Hameedi on the GT350,

Q: Will this be a platform for the GT500?
A: The car has got really good bones so…


And again, Ford said they will release "12 new performance vehicles through 2020".

I Think there will be a GT500, Ford just has too much history with it and it provides a nice "Halo" for the mustang line like the GT350 is doing now.
I agree it will not be until after the facelift and well into or past MY18 and until after Chevy is actually selling the 'Z whatever'.

Some poker analogies
1)The 6th gen is still selling like hotcakes and the Camaros best month is not equal to its worst. So no need to use your wildcard when you've already won the hand.

2)Chevy waited until the S550 was out for a year to make sure they could one-up every category they could. Time for Ford to do the same.

3)If FCA doesn't fold and there is a new Challenger, It could make the Pony/Muscle car segment even hotter than it is now, When better to throw out the ace under your sleeve than after everyone else's cards are on the table.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a short run '17s come to tell you the truth. Almost like the '15 350...
Then a full model year the following
Ford tries to stay true to anniversaries. We'll see if they stick to it, I suppose.
No doubt in my mind its coming.

Ford is hinting of a "higher-spec" version of the EcoBoost 3.5 Crate engine.... 600hp(or more) Ecoboost would be nice...

I'm sure the performance would be impressive but if the GT500 comes with a V6, I'm putting a deposit down on a ZL1.

Performance is only part of what I'm looking for. At the risk of sounding juvenile, part of what I want is a great sound. I'd get a GT350 over a Z/28 even if the Z/28 was faster just because of the song of that incredible flat plane V8. I want a great street car, I don't care if someone else is a half second faster on the track.

Have you heard audio of the new GT on the race track? It sounds okay but pales in comparison to the sound of a race V8.

According to the article, the 3.5 liter Ecoboost V6 could appear in limited production supercars. That to me means the engine is too expensive for a GT500. The final cost to a buyer of a GT500 with the 3.5 liter would probably be over 100000 dollars.
