Rear Plate Install holes

Might be stupid question but it seems the top extruded round rivets things would be better to drill for a plate. Which holes? top or bottom. I want to be sure I can drill the top holes before I screw something up. I still haven't driven this car since I delivered it several days ago and was trying to take it out but don't want to screw it up. The faster I get an answer the faster I can take it for it's first ride! Thanks!!:ford:

Top, did mine myself too. Didn't want the dealer poking any holes.

Top ones. The license plate screw kit (Part No. AR33 17A 386 AA) includes 8 self-tapping screws for the front and rear, but I'm only going to use two in the top holes on the rear and stick a couple of rubber bumpers on the back of the plate at the bottom to keep it off the paint. I'm going to gently predrill the top holes a little, too, to make sure they don't tear when I attach the screws.

No - the screws are self-tapping and have a coarse thread.

Top holes and rubber bumper (as previously mentioned). Used 1/4 x 20 button head black allen screws and tapped the holes prior to installing. Also used 1/4" plastic spacers behind the plate (over the screws) to space it slightly out where the bottom of the plate would likely not make contact with the stripes. Put the rubber bumper dead center bottom so if it did make contact it would be on paint (not the stripes).

Those bottom holes are for European style plates. Use standard plate screws in the (what look like) nutserts. You will need a self tapping screw. The upper holes are not threaded. I could tell you a horrible story, but......
