My dealership assured me that they fill all Mustangs and high performance cars with 93. When I took it home, I found their receipt that even stated 93 octane. I was pretty happy. I did tell them to make sure to fill it with premium though.

Having worked in the car biz for over a decade including my last management job at a Ford store, stealership is a well earned term. Not all are bad, but all have shady employees in them. It's a tough business and takes a tough and talented person to make it a career. Where else can you be uneducated and make six figures?

I'll throw in my two cents.

Like any Turbo-Charged vehicle, there will be turbo lag. It's just the nature of the beast. The engine has to be pushing enough air first before the turbo will spool up. It's limited by the physical capabilities of our universe. The Ecoboost is a nifty little motor and it's so smooth with it's power delivery that under most circumstances, you don't even notice the lag. But when you want that instant power delivery like a naturally aspirated motor, unless you're in the sweet spot (generally above 3,000 rpm) it's just not going to happen.

Spend some seat time in a late 1980's vintage Turbocharged car and you'll have a renewed appreciation for the Ecoboost.

Having said that though, I found them to be spunky but I knew I'd find myself becoming bored with it. I spent about 4 hours driving my buddies Ecoboost car and it was fun, and returned great fuel mileage but just didn't rub me the right way.

But then again, his car is his 24/7 daily driver, my GT will be my April to September "summer car".

Ahhh, very true. I should have realized this as I now work for one of the only companies that handles O & G nationwide for their life safety needs. Also, the industry is a huge employer in this area. Unfortunately due to pricing, it's very reminiscent of the housing and car biz bust of 08-11.
Anyways, hopefully the OP has seen less or no issues since filling with Premium.

Well I've got an update and good news. I just got done installing my AirAid CAI and noticed when I started taking apart the old intake the back of the box where the top attaches to the bottom hooks underneath was not even attached and there was a gap running along the whole backside of the intake box.

After I got the new CAI installed I'm happy to say it's a big difference in throttle response and she's not clunking out on me at 3500 rpm anymore. She's had all the 87 ran out of her and 93 in her veins. I actually was able to bark the tires for the first time when I did a sample pull to test if the issue was still there.

:)

Now that you are hooked get an intercooler and a tune. The monkey on your back will have a pretty firm grip by then.:D

I doubt the dealership voluntarily puts premium fuel in anything.
Haha yeah not if they don't have to. I am pretty sure they put 87 in mine. I put 91 in it the first chance I could. Higher octane should help some.

Well it looks like I spoke to soon. I noticed the power starting to drop out again and the boost was at 3.1 at 4500 rpm with about 3/4 throttle then when I shifted to 4 it stayed then hit around 13.4 and dropped out.

I just called the Dealer and taking it to get looked at Monday morning. Could this be a turbo issue? :frusty:

Just wanted to mention I've ran 2 full tanks of 93 octane thru her since leaving the dealer on the 21st. She's getting plenty of air to from the cai.

The recommended octane is 87 per the owners manual.

2.3L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 Engines
We recommend regular unleaded gasoline
with a pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87.
Some stations offer fuels posted as regular
with an octane rating below 87, particularly
in high altitude areas. We do not
recommend fuels with an octane rating
below 87.
To provide improved performance, we
recommend premium fuel for severe duty
usage, such as trailer tow.

I'd like to see the documentation demonstrating that only full boost is available using 91/93 octane fuel. This is for the stock tune, not aftermarket tune.

Talking with engine overhaulers, the regular use of higher octane fuels increases the amount of carbon deposits on the intake valves on the direct injection engines.

Here's your documentation, right on Ford's own website: http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/specifications/engine/

Mustang EcoBoost®
Engine Type: 2.3L GTDI I-4 Engine
Horsepower (SAE net @ rpm): 310 @ 5500 (93-octane fuel)
Torque (lb.-ft. @ rpm): 320 @ 3000 (93-octane fuel)

Just checked it again and it's on tight everything snug. But I did notice this didn't look right. Not sure if this would affect the turbo but it looks cracked and on crooked.

Ford puts tiny turbos on these cars that spool fast and at low rpms, to feel the torque more try getting into the throttle below 2000 rpms and feel the turbo come on

Thats the factory downpipe right? If so thats just a broken gasket, It doesn't look like its leaking. Start up the car and listen and put your hand and feel for exhaust.... but be careful not to burn yourself.

I've tried it all and the turbo doesn't seem to be holding boost like there is a leak somewhere but I can't seem to find anything out of the norm. I've checked all the hoses multiple times. :frusty:
