Hows it going everyone I just purchased a used base 2015 ecoboost mustang in competition orange with 16k miles. I had a 2002 Mustang GT previously.

I've driven turbo's before and noticed this Mustang doesn't really have the power band or boost I thought it would have. In 2nd gear around 3500rpm the car seems to not boost at all sometimes unless I put the pedal to the floor.

I just feel like I'm not getting the boost I should be getting and the torque advertised. From what I read the boost should kick in between 3500-5300.

I just want to male sure this isn't all in my head. Thanks for any insight.

Are you running 91/93 octane? You have to use premium gas for the EB to get the HP/TQ figures/power.

I'm not sure what the dealership put in it but I haven't filled the car up yet since I've only had it a couple days now. I put 93 in my old stang as well.

I'll run the tank out still have a half tank left then I'll run 93 through it just in case the dealership filled it up with 87. While we're on the subject I never thought about putting 91 octane in over 93 would it make a big difference on 91 octane over 93?

Did you test drive one before purchasing?
Only the one I purchased. When I went on the test drive everything seemed fine although I didn't gun it or anything it felt solid in normal acceleration. It wasn't till I tried to get on it down a back stretch of road I noticed it lacking in power and acceleration and while in the power band it felt sluggish.

I checked under the hood and everything looks alright so I'm hoping maybe the dealer filled it up with 87 and that's what's causing the loss in power.

I doubt the dealership voluntarily puts premium fuel in anything.

Well just FYI the EB takes a big power hit if it's running 87. It's something like a drop from 310 hp to like 279 hp. So I wouldn't be surprised if you are running 87 and that's what you're feeling.

Run the gas out and put in 91 and see how it feels. I think there isn't that much between 91/93.

Agreed. No way a dealership is putting anything but 87 in the car.

New EB 87 octane?

"no dealer putting in higher than 87 octane"...when I picked up my new EB premium convertible, I was told that the dealer always made sure that the new cars had full tanks. When I asked if they had filled with 87...the salesman smiled at me and said: "you bought a Mustang...we always fill them with high octane!" Maybe a $15 dealer extra cost...but it sure was a statement about how my dealer feels about Mustangs!

If they were being honest then that's a good dealership.

Another bit of low hanging fruit would be to make sure there's a fresh air filter in there. If it went 16k on the factory filter, it's time for a new one (if the stealer didn't change it).

Best,
