regarding the arh headers. what is the difference in power of catted vs non. and is there a sound difference. I am not worried about emmisions, but like most of you know I have been hunting down the best sound. do cats muffle or crisp up the sound at all or should I not worry. this will be with an H pipe too. going for the full arh system

It's is probably only a 5 to 10hp difference depending on setup "FI". Catless will be louder. I run catless because I want the extra HP regardless of how little.

I have experience in this area. Yes, cats do muffle the sound a bit and actually can reduce rasp in a system that doesn't have a lot of muffle. Take the Corsa Extreme setup for example. You would hear a noticeable difference between a catted setup versus a catless setup in regards to rasp at certain rpms.

Catted setups also don't stink like catless ones do. Personally, the smell and the performance difference don't warrant going catless for me. Not to mention if your area ever has the sniffer test or a visual inspection on the cats, you may fail inspection.

Force induction with cats is a different story. Typically catless is preferred as the cats can get burned up pretty quick in manifolds, especially turbo manifolds.

If you're staying bolt-ons, I would vote keep the cats for the best overall sound and a cleaner exhaust. Just my 2 cents.

I did this test over a year ago. It was a 3-ish HP difference with cats attached vs straight pipe coupled in on the dyno. I'll take the cats and no smell. With FI I have no issues.

Yeah, the HP difference is very minimal even on FI at low boost. High boost is a different story.

Agreed. I'm about at the limit or maybe even just past for hi-flows. I'll keep 'em as long as it's not a problem. Plus I don't drive at high boost very often.

wouldn't you fail the sniffer on a high flow cat anyway?

Depends on the jurisdiction. With my 93 tune the rear O2s are on so I should pass emissions.

Catless is going to be loud lol. I have catless kooks headers with kooks catback. It's loud.

I'm catless right now with arh and corsa sport. I don't think it's loud. I just can't stand the buzzing sound from shifting around at 3k

This is why I put my cats back in. It most certainly helped. Took a lot of the metallic sound out as well.

Hrm, this is the first I've seen/heard of the buzzing at 3k for catless systems. Is this just an issue for certain combinations or all catless headers will produce this buzz? I'm looking at Stainless Works/Power (lethal sale)and I have a Corsa Extreme exhaust currently.

I want the volume and the extra power of the catless systems but not any annoyance like that.

Full ARH catless with H pipe here. No drone and don't feel or hear any buzz. And yes, it is loud on cold starts and WOT. Loud enough that if it was my daily it would probably get annoying.
