I like to disassemble things.
Here's a chart that lists the relevant fluid for a given year/transmission. Note the spec for your year MT82 and just be sure that whatever fluid you use that it meets that spec.

My own preference is to stick with Motorcraft products.

Beautiful car by the way Biff.

If you REALLY want the MT-82 to shine then invest some money with Ben Calimer at Calimer transmissions to build it up with Cryo treated internals.

That paired with a Race Spec and well.....

+1 for Ben Calimer. While I didn't do the Stage 2 w/cryo treatment and polish, I did do the Stage 1 process and installed the MGW at the same time. :headbang:

What kind of fluid are people recommending for all around weather, Epiphany? Thanks
RP or Amsoil will be smoother than the stock fluid.

I'm sure that an aftermarket unit is much better in feel than the stock unit. But I don't know why many people claim to have so many issues with the stock unit. IMO, they're justifying why the bought an aftermarket unit, or why they suck at driving.

Will I spend the money on an aftermarket unit eventally? Yes. Do I think it's as necessary as people claim? No.

The stock fluid has also been fine for me.

How high "rpms" have you attempts to shift at? The stock shifter is complete garage. If you have ever felt how a MGW feels? Clearly not with a post like that.

7300 RPM. Clutch release, hydraulics, synchronizers, and other internal transmission parts determine gear engagement at a given RPM.

And in my post, I stated that aftermarket units offer better feel than the stock one. I don't doubt that for a second.

I've had an MGW in my Vette and my GTO. I'm well aware of the improvements that they offer.

not hardly true in any facet. I don't justify any parts I installed. I do it for myself, my need or for performance upgrades.

Ford Performance has an upgraded shifter out for the S550. Clearly they see the need to offer an upgrade over stock, right?

The difference in precision, accuracy and feel alone is enough a reason to upgrade. Let alone the craftsmanship and materials used.

My comment was directed at people who make a lot of claims of REQUIRING an upgrade to be able to shift. If you want to upgrade because it's better, then just admit it. There's nothing wrong with that. We're all blowing money, and we can blow it on whatever we want.

But I think the claims of the stock shifter blocking shifts, and all kinds of other claims are exaggerated or user error. Just my insignificant opinion based on my experience.

Fair enough. I agree with your post.

while I will agree that there maybe user error with some, there are a lot of us who know how to drive. The stock shifter is inferior is every way. You will not make consistant shifts from 2nd to 3rd at 7000+ rpms. I would love to see some videos of you trying.

I have no problems at 7300 shifting to any of the gears.

I don't need to tell myself anything. Shifting my car at WOT at 7300 RPMs has not given me any lockouts or miss shifts. You seem very upset that my experience has given me a different opinion. I even posted a video of me shifting my stock shifter without a single issue at 7300.

I stated that an aftermarket shifter offers much better feel, but I don't find it necessary, as my experience has given me no problems with the stock one. This clearly upsets you. It's actually kind of amusing.

It doesn't bother me that you enjoy inferior products and try to justify them. I just don't blieve in leaving crap on my car but it seems like you are fine with it. It's typical of your type.
