I am receiving a FoRS in March or April.

Your mpg figures are wrong, it should be about 22/29 based on other countries results and how they compared to other cars with the US market in previous years.

I really like the way it looks, although I wish it was slightly more aggressive like the second generation.

It will crush the MEB out of the box by a solid full second in the 1/4 mile because of the weight advantage, horsepower advantage and traction advantage.

OK, so the new Focus RS uses just about the same basic 2.3 liter turbo four as the Mustang, tuned up for more power, turned sideways and packaged for FWD. It makes 40 HP and 30 lb-ft. TQ more than the Mustang. It totes around about 300 less pounds of car (curb weight 3400). According to Car & Driver, it'll do 0-60 in 4.6 and a quarter mile in 13.2. Yes, it can kick butt on a stock Mustang Eco Boost. But, why does it use so damn much gas (EPA 17/23 mpg) in comparison to the heavier Mustang (22/31 mpg). Hell, it's got a worse highway rating than the 3800 lb. 435 HP Mustang GT (EPA 15/25 MPG). I've heard a lot of guys on these forums, who I'd estimate are getting as much or more power out of their tuned Mustang Eco Boost engines than the Focus RS engine, report much better actual gas mileage than that (right guys?). Why so thirsty?

Maybe because it's awd
This, and gearing.

It has a completely different turbo!
There is no confirmation on this. It does have bigger camshafts which aren't really that big of a deal. They are what Ford Racing labels as the upgraded camshaft for the Ecoboost Mustang.

Here's a question I wish I had Ford's answer to - Why didn't Ford just retune the Mustang engine to get the relatively modest power gains they set for the production RS? Was it so that it could rev higher and maintain power? Did their engine research tell them it was safer to make other modifications rather than go with a more radical tune? It sure would be nice if some engineer from the eco boost engine research section at Ford could chime in on Mustang 6G and help take some of the guess work out of modifying these things....... (Yea, I know, dream on!)
.
The Mustang isn't a performance focused vehicle. It was actually designed to be an economy vehicle with style, with a little bit of power being a bonus.

Also, there have been bone stock mustangs that have went 13.2 so they aren't faster than an off the lot Ecoboost Mustang (AT).

What is the fastest MT? I'm sort of regretting not opting for A/T

The real reason why the RS doesn't get as good gas mileage:
XwhyI7m.webp

Not sure if anyone knows the reference, but it's from the Focus RS "Rebirth of an Icon" video series: [ame]

Pops and burbles are done through running the fuel a bit more rich, so that could contribute to worse gas mileage as well as the AWD and higher power figures.

you can get a GT with a SC kit with warranty for $40k, better to have a 600whp mustang than a 300whp focus hatchback I say.

That argument/reason is self defeating.

I could buy 5 or 6 fox bodies with 600whp for 40k. That doesn't make it a better or worse decision than buying a 2016 GT with 600whp.

They probably based this off the STI (16/23). The golf R gets much better mpg for somewhat similar performance and being a tad lighter (22/31).

This car will be somewhere in the middle. The AWD hurts, and making more power means more fuel - and they probably run it a bit rich with all those cracks and pops...not to mention added durability.

17/25 or 16/26 would be my guestimate once the numbers really come out.

Vert turbo!!!!
Seems like a lot of fun for what it is... but I'll keep my vert mustang.

The price was surprising... but I'd guess that will fall like a brick soon enough.
