Hey guys, so I got my ecoboost delivered today and I tried the acceleration timer for 0 - 100 km/h today on a flat/straight road and put the mustang on S mode in the transmission and tested on the sport+ and track modes. I found that I couldn't get it under 8.0 seconds for some reason.. From what I've read they can easily do under 6.0 seconds.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Also, what should I do? Can the dealer that delivered it to me help fix this?

He needs NOS... :D

Sorry couldn't resist.

In all seriousness. There are a plethora of variables in those US reviews and 0-100 times (0-6 mph more accurately 96.5kmh).

Temperature/humidity, air density etc. Fuel tank reserve, driver weight etc. The general 5.5 and 5.6 were ideal "perfect" conditions and launched by a professional.

With that being said, 8 second does seem pretty high. What was the weather like? Turbo's are rather finicky with heat and air density as well. More so than an N/A car.

A long shot.......but I wonder if Ford limit the boost for a certain number of miles whilst the engine is braking in.

I know they did this with the '13/14 GT500 and I'll admit I've NOT heard of this on the Ecoboost, but it's possible.

Personally, I'd get a few hundred miles under the wheels (at least) before trying full throttle runs :)

The engine will loosen up considerably after a few thousand K's. I had the first of the Ecoboost Focus STs - that thing got noticeably punchier as the K's racked up.

The other possibility is that your dealer filled it with regular instead of premium - the Americans say it derates them quite a lot.

Yeah, I have to agree it might be wise to ease into the hard driving for a few hundred k's. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a soft tune loaded from the factory to be reset after the first service. Not only that but most new computer cars have to learn the drivers style, technique and habits.
Unfortunately, we live in a society that expects instant gratification. Give it time.

Congrats on your new ride, enjoy!

hey GZ, it's easy to get carried away in this car isnt! There are a few differing views for engine break-in, but they all include not attempting to use the full potential right off the bat.

It kinda sounds like you haven't had a new car before, so drive the car like you normally would, but restrain from really opening up the engine all the way. Long drives held at crusing RPM levels should also be avoided at the start. The engine needs time to settle into being used.

Have fun!!

Some poor soul is going to buy this car used in a few years when this kid is going to get tired of it, and then they're going to wonder and blame Ford itself when it starts burning through multiple quarts of oil between every fuel fill up.

There needs to be a public registry of idiots abusing cars then selling them used with some variation of "never raced, driven gently" in the ad.
