Jealousy is very strong in this thread. Sometimes we need to give credit when its due! Currently, whoever puts performance per value as a priority will purchase a zl1, 1le, or a mustang gt.

If Ford offered a mustang that did the things the Z does, for mid 60s, I think that some here would be singing a different tune.

You mean the R right? because the regular 350 hands its hands full with the 1LE. I would say the R is still a dollar short of the ZL1. Just too much power for the R.

Edit: Still trying to find a new R for mid 60s.

We're talking sticker prices right? Because a R starts at $64k. It's not fords fault their dealers mark them up with a adm. GM would do the same if they didn't have a vett. Nobody's going to buy a $100k Camaro when they can get a vett. Besides the gt350 is in higher demand. Again, can't blame ford for that.

That's true I guess. Even sticker to sticker, the ZL1 is probably going to be the faster car in every measure.

I'm not disputing that. It should be, it has 120+ more hp.

The 350r really should not be compared just due to lack of them made. With less then 1000 built or about 20 per state, most won't even get a chance to see one nevermind a chance to buy one. And my bet most who buy them, will become garage queens and Never see the track. And the prices are off the shelf. The ZL1 will be available to all. The reg gt350 can be had real easy now, but the 1le is right there for much less and the zl1 is way ahead and for the money, the zl1 is fully loaded while the gt350 is basically a strip model. But if you get the elec package, now your at 60k. For the GT350.

Let's see... forced induction + new Ford co developed performance auto transmission... yeah. The zl1 SHOULD be an order of magnitude faster.

If not it would be a disgrace.

lets see how it competes with the Mustang gt500 competitor. That should be interesting.

The gt350 has been out a while now though. Is the zl1 even available yet?

Im sure GM is ensuring it beats all 2015-16 mustangs. But let's see how the Mustang responds after the zl1 has been available for a bit.

So far, the top Mustang beats everything on the camaro side.

Since it's an NA engine, it makes sense that an FI atop camaro should beat it whenever it is out.

Then we will see what the GT500 successor does.

Seems Ford is waiting patiently and allowing GM to show the lot real hand first (waiting for the ace up the sleeve to be revealed) and not just believing what's been stated so far. Smart. We know how that played out last time.

I do believe GM must resort to their new third party licensed Dohc v8 to be competitive moving forward.

It will debut in the New Vette Corvair or whatever it will be called. Then show up in the top camaros. Apparently this one avoids the power deficit that GMs own version suffered after emissions were passed.

But the zL1 weighs 300lbs more, so that eats much of that hp difference.
How are you going to compare a 650hp car to a 526hp car. The race for the ZL1 is over once that blower belt breaks. All the ZL1 is is a 1Le with a blower. NA to NA ZL1 wouldn't stand a chance.

Wow really? Just because the R is lesser made you dismiss it? How many ZL1's have you seen? Right now the ZL1 is more rare than a R!
Since when did you work for GM and decide how many ZL1's to build? The Z28 couldn't even sell out.
Tell me, what's more desirable between the gt350/R compared to a ZL1?
Hmmm the GT350/R has more one offs. The ZL1 again a 1Le with a blower. I could buy a GT throw on a blower and blow the ZL1 away for still less then 65k.

Thats a funny comment! Ride a 300 lbs motorcycle with a 120 hp and come back. You know that 120 hp is more than enough to compensate the 300 lbs right? Its 2.5 lbs per hp, which is way way above even supercar weight to power ratio. Bugatti chiron for example have an estimated 2.93 lbs per hp.

If you took a mustang GT with 450hp and took a 1Le, both with the same tires and manuals. The outcome would be very different.
