JL audio boxes are awesome, worth the premium, I had one in my F-150 but I paid $500 for it which was a ton for 2 8's. But the one they have for the Mustang with a single 10 is too much. We're working people, JL! I'm going with the Zenclosures with a single 10" Kicker C-10. BTW, I ACTUALLY got my Mustang today. Wife made a killer deal. It's only a V6, but it's overkill for an old man like me. I'm only 43, really.

Speak for yourself. I'll be 44 next month and 450whp isn't enough. ;)

I had a rental V6 vert this weekend. It was fast enough but I could see enjoying more power. But in my life I can see enjoying a lot of things I don't have. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy what I do have.

It's actually a 12" not a 10". The price of the sub alone is $350 on JL's website so half the stealthbox price is in the sub alone. Plus it's a guaranteed fit that takes up a lot less space than the Zen box. It also allows you continued using the maximum amount of trunk space to include laying the seats down.

Can you build a box that fits this? Probably, but if you want it to fit similar to the JL stealth box you'll have quite a bit of labor time for all the trimming and test fitting. Even a custom fiberglass enclosure would run a couple hundred dollars when done correctly.

All in all the JL price isn't absurd. But everyone has their own ideas of what "absurd" means LOL

I may have to jump on the forward firing box for two 10's and relocate my amps into my spare tire well seeing as how I have no spare anyway. I've never been a fan of rear firing boxes that are sealed off into the trunk, they just sound muffled to me.

So which will give you the best sounding, crispest bass? Facing the rear seats or facing the trunk?

That's not an easy question to answer. A lot of it depends on what products you using. Amps, Sub, source material, and not least of which: are the subs mounted in a properly sized box.

I've heard $5000 systems that are blown out of the water by $1500 systems. This box is a nice piece, but now you have to build your system around it.

What I have read and with my own experience, rear facing for SPL and from facing for SQ. Vented is typically more efficiant as well. I like nice sharp and musical bass so for me it is front facing, sealed and crossed over in the 60-40 Hz region.

Which options are you getting with this box? (wire terminals, screws, stuffing, etc?)

As a speaker design engineer, I know that the rear seats in the upright position will act as a high-pass acoustic filter. It is possible that your sub would need no crossover at all. It would sound crappy in the trunk, and okay in the cabin.

Now that was simplifying things. In reality, one would measure the in-cabin SPL response of those speakers, and then design the sub's Low Pass Filter to match. I can imagine that the sub still won't make enough low midrange to blend, leaving a hole in the response in that band.

However, if one wanted highest SQ while driving, one could design the system with the sub behind one seat, and the other seat folded down. NOW you have lower midrange audible, and so the LPF design would certainly change.

Note that my comments imply that seat up/down response is a courser change than woofer facing forward/rearward. IOW, a rear-firing woofer in a sub box mounted behind the upward seat, and with the other seat folded down, could give pretty high SQ with the properly designed LPF.

One other comment. Guys, please understand that two 10" subs are not twice as good as one. The cabin volume is very small. I plan to put money into ONE good 10" (maybe even an 8"), and there will plenty of good SQ to be had. Things like to port or not, box volume (smaller with one woofer!), filter design, etc. are all more important than the "more is better" approach.

2¢

I hope to do all the proper R&D for this come summer time.
