Thanks for missing the point, which was that the z06 is supercharged and that its light for a supercharged car in 2016.A common expectation of vehicles in current production is to lose some damn weight.
They are not coming close to each other...Thanks for missing the point, which was that the z06 is supercharged and that its light for a supercharged car in 2016.
The mustang has gained a Bit of weight and the z06 has gained a couple hundred pounds.
The vette and mustang are 2 different classes of car.
Add to that a significant weight advantage and an even more supercharged power advantage, and the gt350 or any mustang shouldn't be coming close to the vette. If and when they do, it's quite the kudos to Ford and quite the embarrassment for Chevrolet.
Did you also know that I have a Track Pack GT350? That means my house is made of brick and my shoes are made of Python.that's funny because this forum is littered with gt350 owners complaining of their car going into limp mode. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. ;)
both cars are amazing, but the z06 is in different league.
The Track Packs all seem to have a 15-20k ADM right now only getting worse. I personally think that is too much money (eventhough it performs as well as cars costing well over 100k) The new Viper ACR would be a very interesting car. Other than that there is no car in production in the 100k and below segment that I would consider over a GT350 Track Pack/R personally. They are not coming close to each other...

Not only is there 1s difference which is huge in a 1/4 mile, but trap speed is a whooping 10mph faster as well. That is probably 2-3 bus lengths.
Performance was never the main reason why I made this thread. Its obvious a car that weighs 250lbs LESS and puts out 125hp and 200ft/lb torque will be significantly faster. I wanted to know about the overall driving experience or ownership experience of both because thats what those numbers dont tell you.
I wish I could buy a GT350 at sticker, I would be so happy right now. But the cheapest track pack I found is $71,000. A Z06 with a few options with the current GM discounts go for 3k more.... Thats hard to swallow. Mustang is a mustang afterall, as much as I would never pay a Z28 $75,000 or M4 GTS $140,000 or GT3RS $329,000, I would never pay $71,000 for a mustang. Its not that I cannot afford, its beyond what my logical reasoning allows.
Corvette costs 70k (base with discounts) and I think in a track or street driving it performs significantly better. I am not saying its a better car though. You made a statement : "below 100k that performs better". Thats inaccurate. Now you might say "fun" or "visceral" because of the engine and I'll buy that and I might even agree with you.The Track Packs all seem to have a 15-20k ADM right now only getting worse. Fair enough - in pure measurement on 1 hot lap sure there are faster cars. I take into account all the variables - performance, sound, entertainment factor etc. To better clarify I think the GT350 driving experience is hard to beat in the 100k and under segment.Corvette costs 70k (base with discounts) and I think in a track or street driving it performs significantly better. But for the price its going for, mustang is not cheap and its not any better than the competition (camaro z28 which costs 75k).
Again before others jump the gun and flame me, my post focuses on "performance" and performance alone.
The day I find one at sticker, I will buy it.There is no close contest between the Z06 vs GT350/R. Because Z will be faster whether laps or dragstrip. Any track, any strip. Equal drivers, equal conditions. 2 different cars that perform in 2 different classes with 2 different high-performance characters and potentials. Just pick one or the other, or buy both. Win-win.
Keep looking. They are out there.. there are still unsold allocations as well. I had my name first on a list for a 2017 at msrp but the dealer would not take a deposit to lock in the deal. Searching for one that would a 2016 at msrp my choice of options fell into my lap.The day I find one at sticker, I will buy it.
I wish I knew where to look:( All I am doing is searching Ford dealers from google where I live (NJ) and emailing them. So far outcome is pretty pathetic:(Keep looking. Was it you or Rogue that is buddies with Snorman (road courses a C7Z) and has reported no overheating issues! There is no close contest between the Z06 vs GT350/R. Sean (aka Snorman)... he has an A8 and goes to RA, COTA, Sebring, HMS, Daytona Rolex, etc. with his. All stock w/ track prep settings per owners manual. There are others too with either M7 or A8 that track very hard & fast. I'm pretty quick with my Z but some of those guys are clearly above my level. Lawdogg (who btw clocks 1:29-1:30 at RA) , Operations, Poorsha, and more...Was it you or Rogue that is buddies with Snorman (road courses a C7Z) and has reported no overheating issues!
I believe he is only one of the few though, I wonder what the % is of people over heating vs not over heating. I heard there are also transmission issues with the A8 over heating in the Z..
