Hey all, first post here!

Been a couple months with my 2019 GT and it's about time to get some exhaust changes. I've been looking at the Roush or Steeda X/H pipe - is there a big difference between brands or is it really just going to come down to quality/brand name?

I'm mostly only looking for either a mid pipe or an axle back, not looking to go too loud! For reference, I have a friend with a 2015 GT that has the Roush X pipe and axle back, and in my opinion it is too loud and raspy.

Thanks for any input!

No difference in sound. Only difference is the materials and build quality. If you remove the resonators your car is going to be too loud. Especially on cold starts. Maybe not as loud as a 15' Roush AB with resonator delete (with the 19 exhaust that might be debatable) but still way too loud If you're worried about that go active exhaust cat back. I love too loud.

i have the steeda h pipe and it is only louder on start up, and not a huge difference. now i have the active exhaust so in quite mode you gotta put your foot in it big time to tell a difference and when cursing you'll never know it's there. love mine.....tone difference i could not tell yea other than at idle it's a bit deeper.

I've had both, started with an X, then replaced the X with the current H. MAYBE the H is a little deeper, maybe not. No noticeable performance improvement with either, but both make the car louder, and IMO a little raspier with heavy throttle. I've toyed around with putting the resonator back in but didn't want to quiet it down so much (still have the stock mufflers). However, I just bought the NXT Step axle-back exhaust (which looks to be listed as Accelatec by CJ Pony Parts and SVE by Late Model Restoration). Reviews on it are limited but one guy on here has it and put the resonator back on and loves it (Double Race Red Journal). The stock resonator is essentially an H-pipe with sound damping, it's a straight-through design like an H.

I have borla 3 inch catbacks. I love them. They are just loud enough but not to bad. Mine is an h-pipe design. It is a deeper sound.

If You don't like "raspy" keep the stock resonator or get an H pipe...

I'd get just an axle back pick your poison in terms of tone. 2.5 Will be quieter than 3

Mine had teh X-pipe and axle backs from ROUSH on it when I bought it. Wife would not ride in the car. Took it off and installed a SOLO (their quietest system) and it sounds great. Plenty of compliments, toned down cold start and plenty of approval while still being able to be tolerated by wifey's tender little ears. Muscle Car owner liked, Wifey passenger approved.

Would just an X pipe with stock mufflers (non active) get raspy? I'd assume only in the higher rev range.

I've read up a bit and many people are saying there isn't that big of a difference in sound between the Steeda X and H lol. I just need a bit louder than stock! Although, these 2018+ GT's come with a much better stock exhaust than the 15-17 in my opinion.

I'm in the same boat I went with the X pipe. It wont be raspy because the stock muffler does a great job at dampening the higher frequencies.

There is definitely a sound difference between X and H pipes...

Finally it's subjective... So don't worry about rasp... Do what ever you want add some Vibrant resonators if you think it's raspy. Those are like 100.00 for the pair.

The stock 18+ are too loud for my tastes... And i like the bassier tone of the 15-17. They just did too good a job haha

Check this out

Heres another setup

Thanks for the insight! Think I’ll watch some more videos of the X vs H and decide which ones for me haha. Seems like a good quick mod and might even be it for me exhaust wise, if not some axlebacks down the road.

I definitely don’t think that this setup will be louder than the friend of mine’s, which I referenced in my original post is much too loud. Now I’ve just got to find where to buy it in Canada so I don’t get annihilated by conversion and duties!

Follow-up to an earlier post...just installed a Magnaflow Tru-X resonated X-pipe with the stock mufflers. Now having had this resonated X, the stock resonator which is a resonated H, and non-resonated X and H pipes all installed with my stock mufflers, it's a good opportunity to share my experience with all four setups.

Sound: I found the X's to be the same loudness or maybe a tiny bit quieter than the H's. That said, if there was a difference, it was really hard to tell. Both resonated pipes were definitely quieter than either non-resonated pipe (what a surprise). Although I liked that the NR pipes made the stock mufflers louder, I did not like that they made the mufflers sound very tinny at higher RPM's, almost like a loose piece of sheet metal; and they both had an unpleasant raw crack or splat on cold starts.

Performance: X's are supposed to give better peak HP, and H's are supposed to give better low-end torque. Although there's not a big difference in butt-dyno results between the four pipes, I think this is probably true.

Turned out to be quite an expensive experiment!
