Depends on the year. >2018 6spds with base gearing are absolute dogs. The 10spd feels much quicker due to gearing. If going manual it's an absolute must to either be <2018 or at a minimum the performance package due to the better rear gearing.

I've had both transmissions. I enjoy the stick very much but I would be a lying S.O.B. if I said dailying a manual was fun in heavy traffic cities. It is not. I daily my manual and I do find myself getting tired of the stop and go crap. That isn't what the manual is best at; now I LOVE the manual where there isn't much traffic and can row through the gears properly and have fun. That is blissful.

My take on the transmissions:
The six speed manual is good in general, but got smoother in the later years. The Tremic in the GT350 or the Mach 1 is really the manual everyone wants.
The six speed auto from the early 2015-2017 was smooth and reliable. If I were to get another auto again, this would be the one I would pick, a car from these years.
The 10 speed auto that GM/Ford co-created is worthwhile to avoid in my opinion. It hunts for gears and is not known to be reliable, especially the earlier years from 2018-2020 they are known to be troublesome over time. The later years of the 10 speed have been somewhat better; but I would still pass on this transmission every time.

I have a 2023 GT. I wanted a stick shift but my agreement with the wife when I bought it was to get the automatic so she could drive it. (She did not want to learn to drive stick).
When I drive it, I do manual shifting of the automatic using the paddles. (S and S+ modes) It is not the same, but it keeps me engaged.

Mach 1 with a 6 speed … I’ve only owned one automatic in my life so I’m probably not the guy to ask. love a manual transmission .

I’ve had both the 6 speed auto (my previous Mustang) and the 10 speed auto (my current Mustang). I’ve had no issues with the 10 speed although my car is a 2022 which I think did get some updates from the prior years. It’s fast and smooth so I have no complaints. It’s very different from the 6 speed auto though, for obvious reasons. More gears, it hunts for the “proper” gear, skips gears, etc. I wouldn’t say I favor one over the other, just that they’re different. The logic in GM’s 10 speed programming is better than Ford’s, doesn’t seem to hunt as much.

As for the manual, the Tremec in the 350/Mach is fantastic. I’ve only driven an MT-82 car a few times and it’s pretty good, I just don’t have long term or even long trip experience with it.

I think someone else mentioned bad knees, I’m in the same boat. Also, traffic around here can be a nightmare so driving a manual isn’t the most fun like you stated. If I can get to the point where I’m tracking more, I will definitely consider a manual for that.

Oh and let’s talk DCT for a second. The Tremec DCT in the GT500 is frickin amazing. Hands down best trans I’ve driven to date. Keeps you in the powerband all the time, crisp shifts and lightning fast. The logic that Ford used is spot on, disappoints me they didn’t do the same for the A10. I’m eyeing a 500 right now, just gotta get the boss on board, which is easier said than done LOL

I bought the 6sp only because I didn't want to put an aftermarket car alarm on it. no one will ever steal this car once they get in it :)

I got one as it was the surest way my daughters would not be driving it. I taught them how to drive stick and thankfully their fear of not being able to get of neutral without stalling at a red light makes it totally mine!

As the owner of a 6 speed 2018, I can confirm this is correct.

It was sluggish stock. I put bigger wheels and tires on it too, which actually makes it a little worse.

Although, you could, like I did, have a shop swap out that 3.55 for a 4.09 and solve the problem. 😎
