After several months of searching and missing out on a couple cars because I thought about it too long, I found another one I'm interested in. Problem is it is a very long drive (about 9 hours). Its a 16 ruby red auto premium with foundry wheels, nav and ceramic interior for 35k. I found a similar one much closer here in Ohio, but it has the reg. wheels and black interior. I also found a couple sweet looking CO cars not too far away, but they most likely will be a couple grand more d/t a few more options I really don't need. I wonder if some dealers may trade to get a car just like you want without charging too much extra or if I'm stuck having to pick what they have or continue to look and maybe taking a road trip?

I did take a trip last week to try to get a guard near the coast that was 7k off, but it was a nightmare. I got lost twice d/t no nav or cell phone, about ran out of gas, car almost overheated and by the time I got there they had just sold it. Then I had to turn around and drive right back. In hindsight I should never tried to do it all in one day and should have called to let them know I was coming out first. They did have a manual guard at a good price, but IDK just have my mind set on an auto this time, although it did seem to shift easier and the clutch was much lighter than my 14. They also had a white auto premium, but it was the wrong color and had recaro seats which looked nice, but were a little tight in the back since I'm a lifter.

I flew from GA to PA to buy my car and drive it back home. Flew one way and drove it back 1000 miles over 2 days. Best car trip EVER.

The trip for me was worth it as I love my '15GTPP.

Flying would be an option if I didn't have a trade, but its my only car and live alone.

I bet that if you tell a local dealer what you want, they will find a way to get you what you want.

You should call the dealership. Some dealerships offer free one way airfare and/or transportation from the airport.

If you drive, make sure and let them know you're on your way. It doesn't sound like you did that on your disastrous adventure. I've never had a dealer NOT hold one for me. I will say though, from experience, ask them to physically go confirm the VIN. I had a dealer in Cincinnati hold an explorer for us. Drove over two hours, get there and the vehicle is great..then I notice the price is higher. Long story short, when I called to get it held the salesman just looked out on the lot and saw a red one and presumed it was correct. Ended up getting a bottom dollar price on a different explorer but it wasn't the one my wife truly wanted and now due to some isues she considers it "cursed".

Koons, I assume?
yessir. $5k cheaper than both local ford dealers. they wouldn't price match... so I went to koons. this was back in jan 2015 though but the local dealers here still suck and still can't touch koons.

I'd say if it is ONE your options. TWO the price you want. THREE cost effective to travel. Then do it.

Hell of an experience driving it back.

I didn't travel as far, but I flew to Newport News, Virginia from Pennsylvania to get mine. I had a few phone conversations with the dealership and said, "make it worth it for me to come down and I'll take it". They definitely did. They picked up my girlfriend and me at the airport, did everything as promised, including the price, and we drove it home the next day. The car was/is totally worth it.

Awesome!! This was my best car buying experience ever. They picked me up at the airport which was 50 minutes away. Pricing was awesome as was the price on the extended warranty, etc. When I buy my next one, I will be flying back up there and driving home again :D:ford:
