You can now order personal plates (Legacy included) without a vehicle assigned to it. Once it is issued, you have to personally go into the DMV to pick them up. Its kinda a huge PITA nowadays, even with an appointment...you still may wait 1 to 2 hours standing in line. Plates take between 12 to 14 weeks to arrive. Cali loves to inconvenience people.

Back in the day, everything was ordered and assigned to a vehicle online. Then your plates arrive in the mail. Was quicker too...

Yeah that's what I went through. I ordered on December 28th. Got a receipt on June 20th saying that they will be ready to be picked up between 8 to 12 weeks. So last day was Sept 20th. I received a letter on the 23rd of Sept that they were ready to be picked up and the date was stamped Sept 21st.

I ordered black plates at my local office for my 02 back at the end of June and the shipped them to my home at the end of August. (which look on the car BTW:cheers

Now I'm gonna order plates for the 16!
