On the premium system, does anyone know where to look for the junction of the wires going to the mid and tweeter? From the diagrams others have provided, it's apparent that each pair shares a single lead coming from the amplifier then splits off. The question is, where behind the dash does this happen? I want to use the factory wiring as much as possible, but I need to separate them.

I don't know where the splice is.That is why I separated the crossover into sections.

I never found it. I have a feeling its wrapped up in the black wire wrapping that Ford used in the door. I would assume that you could cut the tweeter wire in the A pillar and run new wire down to the floor board, where it meets up with the wiring harness.

Factory wiring feeds the midrange and the tweeter in parallel. It splits in the door at or near the connector to the 3". I Know this because I installed 3-way and my crossovers are in the door. I disconnected the midrange (fed it straight from the crossover) and then fed the tweeter signal through the midrange wire... I left the MID/TW wiring disconnected at the plug by the amp.

The problem with this theory is that if they split the signal in the door, they'd have to run an extra set of wires back out of the door to bring the tweeter signal to the pillar. What you experienced works just as well if the split is behind the kick panel or under the dash.

Grumblin....I see 2 potential problems.
1st is you are now running full amp power into 20 or 22 gauge wire to feed the crossover. The woofer needs the most power, then the mid, then the tweeter in that order. The woofer is using the max of that gauge wire by itself. You are pulling the mid and tweeter loads, even though they are less, all from 1 set of thin leads.
2nd is ,where did you mount the crossover? There is no room under the door panel.I found 1 spot under the arm rest, but it is a tight squeeze. If you check out my speaker thread,I sliced the crossover into sections and mounted them locally at each speaker.A brave move, and not recommended unless you are ready to buy a second set if something goes wrong.

If you went inside the door on the opposite side of the vapor barrier, you are exposing it to moisture which will degrade it's life.

These are just opinion, none of it is set in stone.I just hate having to go back in and re-do stuff.
