Any concern over electronics under the dash? A friend of mine did his durango SUV and shorted out some crap...never really recovered, even after the dealer "fixed" it.

Not entirely sure what you mean but I've had my windshield tint for 3+ years with zero issues.

I guess the application of the tint had excess water and that got into the dash...he said he had to air it out because it wouldn't start when he picked up the truck. I was just wondering if that is something to be concerned about with the mustang.

Got it. That could be a concern with any car. It's all on the installer. I did my due diligence and found the best in my area (regardless of price). Checked out their shop and their work before I gave them my car. Never a 100% guarantee but it worked for me.

Tint is expensive. Perhaps consider if state law prohibits it. Some places it is not legal to tint the front sides and windshield. 26708 of the California Vehicle Code spells out the law in Cali. So, in Cali, if ticketed, the affected tint will need to be removed. Plus, if it is not legal where you live, just be aware that it gives the Five-Oh a reason to pull over someone driving an illegally tinted 5.0 to see what's up behind the tint. That said, I have dark tint front sides and rear plus no front plate (illegal). I just drive like a grown up and haven't had a problem.

The '21 has 20% on sides and back, which I love. And a much longer than legal dark visor. I'm 5'10 and its right above my eyeliner so I love it. Car is like a cave during the day. I used to tint the fronts completely back in the day with light ceramic for heat, but getting them replaced for rocks and then retinting was a pain.

There are some tints with metallic properties, "metallized" due to metal dust/components in them. I don't think many use this type any more.

Along with excess water used during installation, the type of tint referenced above, if used, could have contributed.

One benefit of modern ceramics is it gets you away from any potential electronic issues, degrading of cell or radio service in-particular.

I drive at night so full tint is a no go for me. However i have sensitive eyes to light so i need as much help as i can. I did a 5% strip along the top of the windshield. Pretty much stops just above my field of normal view of the road. It helps a ton and i dont have to flip down the visors near as much.

Been doing that on all my cars ever since i started driving. As well as 20% front doors and 5% the rest

I have the “percentages “ wrong. It would be a 70% on the front windshield. Which blocks 30% of the light. The back window and sides are 20% and the doors are 35%.
Keep in mind that factory glass is already tinted to a 70%.

Big misconception out there is that the glass is clear and the film you put on is the actual percentage.

I'm considering getting my windshield tinted and I'd appreciate comments for and against. I will comply with state tint limits. Thanks in advance.
Well, here in Texas, you cannot have any tint on the front windshield, except above the ASI line.

Not exactly true. You can have your front windshield tinted as long as it it is clear. If you go darker you must have a “medical exemption “ for anything darker. We have a medical tint exemption, that is why we are able to have darker tint. I also live in Texas. My wife has been pulled over for having a front windshield tinted but has shown her medical exemption.

Absolutely 100%. Most of the heat comes in from the windshield. Get a high quality ceramic tint. I have Autobahn Air Ceramic 80. I'm sure there are newer, better ones.

Ira, This is new to me. I interpreted the OP as asking if he should tint his windshield like we often do the side and rears...darker. Is yours pretty much clear but offers heat and UV protection?

Yes. 80% is virtually clear. It's the ceramic that does the job. Massive reduction in heat with UV protection as well.
