Hey guys, this summer I plan to get my windows tinted but I'm not sure how dark to go. I'm debating between 50% and 35% (legal limit).

If anyone can post pix of theirs it would be appreciated. I have a RR with black interior. I know because I have a black interior it will add to the tint look. Pretty much why I'm debating between the two.

Thanks!

Of those 2, I would do 35%. Here is my 35%

I don't know how strict your state is on window tint but here in FL they don't care

I believe our legal limit is around 30% or so as well but I went 15% and I've never had an issue. Anything above 15% is just too light for me

35% is our legal limit. Want something that looks good, but doesn't give the police a reason to pull me over either.

I get the darker is better argument though...

Seeing as you're in Chicago I wouldn't go any darker than legal there. I know the cops aren't too keen on not being able to see you and will ticket you every time.

My suggestion is to make sure you use a good ceramic tint. I prefer Formula 1. It has the best heat rejection on the market and Llumar is very picky about who they let install it. So you're getting a great tint with high heat rejection and the peace of mind that the installer has been vetted.

Other good ones are 3M Crystalline and Huper Optik. At a lower price level, you've got Llumar CTX.

All of these have different shades to them, so I would go to visit in person.

Here's my tinter's YouTube. He does a lot of Formula 1 and Llumar. Should give you an idea of what some different percentages look like.

I'm using 15% on sides & rear and have the AirBlue 80 on the windshield. I'd recommend the windshield, too. Definitely cuts on the sun hitting your legs and isn't noticeable unless you're really looking for it.

Legality aside, dark always looks better, but if you drive with your windows up at night, your visibility will be greatly limited. Pretty much turns your windows into mirrors. Just keep that in mind.

I have 35% tint on mine.

Another thing to keep in mind if you're worried about the legality is that most factory windows have ~ 7% tint. Most shops will tell you that and they will sell you a tint that will be legal. The tint shops I've dealt with in Maryland will note it very clear on the invoice if you select a tint that is not legal. To keep it legal, they'll have an odd number like 43% tint.

I have found that through testing (from police) and the tint I had on my car that our windows have about 3-4% tint to them. Hope that helps some.

Many tinters in FL won't even provide you a receipt if you want illegal tint. It puts them at a liability.
