Window Tint FAIL

Hey guys new to the S550 World. Recently had my windows tinted and upon close inspection i noticed razor blade marks on my trim(passenger window).
What is this piece called?
Would it be pretty easy replacing or should i just ignore?
OCD just like any other car guy on here lol.

If you paid to have the windows tinted, I would go back and ask the shop to pay to have it repaired or if they are willing and you feel comfortable with them, let them repair it.
If you didn’t pay for the tint then I wouldn’t let it bother me......however that is sometimes easier said than done.

Wait....isn't that on the outside? Don't they install it on the inside?

Some shops will size and hand-cut the tint using the outside of the window as a template, then install it on the inside of the window.

If it’s a lite mark and not all the way through it I would worry about it. If it goes all the way through I’d look at having it replaced. Sometimes things get more fouled up than it was to begin with.

Ahh, got it, thanks. So by the looks of it....somebody was....cutting upwards? Who the hell does that? I mean if they were cutting down then they started cutting halfway into the stripping and then went straight?

If that cut goes all the way through it's going to lead to problems down the line. As the window goes up and down eventually something is going to fold over or get stuck and that's when you're going to have leak issues.

I think I'd try to sand the cut line out if it's not too deep. Never tried it myself but here's a procedure that might work or search for more info on sanding rubber; https://itstillruns.com/sand-rubber-parts-6386054.html

Im not recommending this personally, but heat gun may fix but also might dry it up. Alternatively, a rubber/plastic trim coat may cover it up somewhat.

Id bet replacement is cheap, most likely a shop, even the mustang factory at Flat rock, just cut to shape for the rubber.

Found the part on Ford Parts and looks to be 120 bucks ...

Ill replace in the future but as of right now I'm just going to try and ignore it. I'm afraid if I have dealership replace it's going to come out shop with more issues lol.

I have applied trim dressing to keep it from at least drying out with the sun in the meantime.

As a window tinter myself.....i use a marker to mark the tint on that edge when i have to hand cut.... i use a plotter with Tint-Tek software now.... a knife never touches a car!!!! i tint for a local ford dealership and surrounding dealers in the kcmo area...never an issue.

You may find the part used on ebay or junkyard for much cheaper. I'd grab the part number and do some searching. Might luck out

Well, I guess you should go to the tint shop and talk to the manager about it. Recoup some money or even potentially have them replace it.
