Our sales have been holding steady. Lets see what stimulus checks do.

I refuse to give the federal government my checking account number so I won't be getting mine any time soon... I'll wait on the paper check thank you.

In fact, I can't think of a time where I purchased more car parts.
New Hood, Fuel Tank, Bumper + Turn Signals, Fenders, Suspension, Tires, Seat... and all on my own dime because I'm not going to fall for socialism.

So set up a separate checking account for government and all other direct-deposit sources of income. Transfer monies from there into your normal account as they come in. Thank me later.

Dare I suggest either limiting or eliminating all automatic payments, or at least funding them out of this second account.

I'm planning to buy new tires soon. I've been off work since Dec 2019, so tires haven't been a big concern. And I currently have my winter wheels on. A couple very promising job prospects in a few weeks are giving me an itching trigger finger. If a job happens then tires will be a 1st purchase. Along with getting my sailboat in the water.

Exactly, use your checking account for direct deposits etc. And transfer money somewhere else once you get it. Works great, all of you "they will steal my money" people should think for a minute how checking accounts work ;)
And yes, eliminate all automatic payments (I just have car insurance as automatic, don;t want to forget that one) everything else CC.

I'm fortunate enough to be in an "essential" technology job - although that may change, but being stuck at home with the car just 10 feet away and being bored with my kids stuck there too means quality time with my kids working on the car.

Parts ordered.

I'm in pretty good shape job wise and wife is as well. Emergency fund is stacked and stay a month ahead on the bills. It is spooky times for sure but life goes on. Got jacking rails and an oil seperator coming. After that will be a "stop the hop kit" from Steeda in a couple of months, then an X-pipe in the fall. Beyond that not sure what I'll do. Not throwing big money at the car but a little here and there keeps me feeling like I'm moving forward with where I ultimately want the car. Wanted bigger wheels and tires but will probably stay on my PP1 set up until the tires are wore out, guess you could say that is my break point on spending right now.

My wife used to work for a company that engaged in some very shady practices in their effort to get everybody on direct deposit. I'm talking live paychecks that weren't funded and bounced. More than once. And IIRC even the direct deposit folks weren't immune to payroll problems, and I knew that there were direct deposit problems at the company I worked for when they were first setting up direct deposit payroll. Hence our general separation of checking accounts between incoming and outgoing, with me doing same-day transfer from the incoming account to our general use account.

After retiring, it was just easier to leave things that way.

I found out when my Dad passed away that the federal government pulled overpaid Social Security from his account with no direct authorization from me (as his executor), once they learned of his passing.

Only our medical premium and one other item are automatically paid (I think there was a few $ off the medical for setting it up that way).

Got my direct deposit yesterday for the $1200, and ordered a pair of BMR jacking rails. Should be here next week.

Norm: Yep, social security will take back any deposits made for any period after the deceased passed. The trick to that is to pull out everything but about $5 as soon as it hits that account. They can't pull back what isn't there. Wait about 30 days or so, just in case anybody else wants to deposit anything, then close the account.

That's been our own theory for managing our own accounts with respect to direct-deposit funny business that went on in the early days. Keep just enough in the deposit account to avoid maintenance fees.

My Dad's been gone just over 8 years now (he was 91). Thankfully, I was able to get all the estate stuff finally squared away a few years ago.
