Wait, so you shopping for a Mustang to replace the Jetta? Where are you going to put your kids?
My kids fit in the back just fine.

Since I only own a Supercharged (Saleen Supershaker) 3V mustang and not a 2015/16, I will add my thoughts on the potential test drive. The factory tune for the Eco will probably lead a lot to be desired. However, based on tuned Eco dynos, it appears as though the Eco has more torque until about 4250rpm compared to the GT (and then from 5K up the GT is dominate). This makes for a great daily driver with the benefit of MPG on a long commute. I want to compare the Eco to the GT, but only in a modified Eco since it becomes another car after a tune.

With that being said, since this is my 3rd mustang GT, losing the exhaust note may be extremely hard for me.

I think so, the EB is a great car in my opinion.

However, the car is pretty silent so if you want good engine noise it's not for you.

If you are going to be in the vehicle 2 hours every day, I'd rather have the bells and whistles. The power of the GT is nice but I'd rather be comfortable. Coming from a Jetta, you will have a step up in power anyways.

Considering the cars you have previously had, go GT.

I don't think i've ever read someone going from a GT to an ecoboost, but i've read numerous post about someone from an ecoboost going to a GT.

If you love the V8, don't get an ecoboost. You'll regret it!

Get a GT, but not one with the performance package, and you can get 3.55 or numerically lower gears to aid in highway cruising, and you can expect decent mileage.

You can get a no-option GT/Premium and get leather and such. It's $7k more for the GT over the ecoboost.

BTW, I'm 39 and have all those responsibilities as well. I just made it work around my life and I got the car I wanted.

Sounds like your fiscally responsible so the ecoboost will give you the best overall bang for the buck and some simple mods will get you close enough to GT power.

My kids are older now. They can squeeze in the back. The oldest is out of his car seat, the youngest uses smaller car seats now.

Thanks guys, this is some good input.
It comes down to if you need the sound of the V8 or not. Performance of the stock GT can be matched pretty easily and cheaply on the Ecoboost, especially if you're going for an auto. A good tune (Adamtuned or Livernois) and intercooler is typically enough to run with a GT to 70/80 MPH and will actually have a more exciting punch down low due to the turbo sizing but will feel breathless up top, and this is definitely magnified from 3rd gear and up.

However, like I said, it all comes down to if you want the theater/drama of a V8. A nice exhaust and BOV on the Ecoboost sounds pretty good actually, but it is different.

Get a GT if you want a GT... Both engines have their pros/cons. It's your choice in the end, your cash. I chose loaded EB vs base GT, over time I wanted more power and mods fixed that... I'm pretty happy with it. BTW, I daily mine.

Thanks guys. I'm learning toward the GT Premium non performance pack. I think it is a good compromise. I still get navigation (CarPlay) and a V8. I can always upgrade gears or add the braces later.

Now to find the best deal.

Well in that case,

Ecoboost is cheaper to buy and run but it also sells for less and has potential expensive turbo fixes, and I don't like uncertainties.

You have to ask yourself are the extra features mean more to you than a v8? Also ask is whether you are going to regret not getting x.

To me modern cars are unnecessarily complicated, so you know which one id pick[emoji2]

Depends,

If you're looking for a 4 cylinder GT type car with lots of punch, you will absolutely be happy. I was quite happy with my purchase decision :) It makes cool engine sounds, too, albeit a little more subdued than my last car did ('99 Pontiac Sunfire GT). You can put a CAI on it (or even re-route the blow off valve) to get the cool turbo sounds, or put an exhaust system on it to make it louder.

If you absolutely have to have the V8 rumble and can't stand getting ~28 MPG (that's what I was getting with mine as a daily driver, even with the higher rear end on the performance package), then go GT. P.S. Your insurance rates go up along with the number of cylidners ;)

I'd get the V8 or wait for the EB bump in HP or new V6 EB engine that is obviously coming in MY '17 or '18.

v6 EB is not coming to a mustang for a while. People aren't ready for change.

OP keep in mind insurance costs and gas costs(even though it's cheap right now). People only seem to look at the base price of things and call it a night
