If the GT didn't exist there would be a lot more supporters of the Ecoboost, but since we live in a world where both exist, it gets a bad rap, even though it's more than adequate and does just well. I'm a sucker for a quad cam v8 that revs to the moon, so the GT sucks me in with it's intoxicating exhaust note alone.

CarPlay is coming but isn't here quite yet, and I'll choose a loaded up car with an Ecoboost over a bare bones GT every time to get the heated/cooled seats, BLIS, nav, premium trim interior, and the Shaker Pro.

i understand why people get a base bare GT w/ recaros, but it's not for me.

Buy the EB

I have an EB Premium...love it. I've driven the GT extensively and just don't like it. More muscle car than sports car. I find the EB much more refined, nimble and balanced. With the sport mode, it's plenty fast.

As Abe Lincoln said, most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.

If you are comfortable affording a loaded EB as opposed to a base GT, then decide that's the thing for you and enjoy it. Otherwise, decide to do without the toys, order a GT, and enjoy that.

Both cars are nice. So long as you are driving only one of them, there's nothing to compare with and you will be fine. I make it my policy to not drive cars I can't afford, and to not drive anything at all if I'm not in the market, so I don't spoil my car for myself.

For example, I am NOT looking for the chance to drive a GT350. I'd like it too much and I can't afford it. I am splurging on the GT I have. So I savor it. Do the same.

2018 EB Prem. w/PP and 94 Mustang Cobra
Being a Mustang Enthusiast and having owned 18 prior, with my current 2016 being the 19th, all of my prior Mustangs were V8's, with the exception of 2 SVO's AND my current EB.

For me, I still have my 94 Cobra w/ 5.0 if I need to shift gears and hear the ever so common Ford V8 sound, whether it's at idle or at WOT...

I lurked in this forum for a while before joining just to see what others had to say about the EB - because the EB is the first 4cyl turbo Mustang to return since the 84-86 era. Yes, I originally wanted another V8, but after reading up on the forums here, not only what M6G Members had to say, but the Vendors/Tuners and watching numerous vids, I chose the EB as my new Mustang.

Here's why:

I wanted a 2016 Mustang with Premium, with Performance Pack and auto transmission - and the best bang for the buck with regards to BASE pricing.

I travel approximately 500mi per week (excluding any weekend driving) which is roughly 85% highway.

I have had V8's for years, not only in Mustangs but other vehicles.

I have had manual transmissions for years in a variety of vehicles (and all prior Mustangs).

The EB with mods and available tunes is capable of 500hp+!!

The EB Premium, with Performance package offers nearly everything (and more) than a base GT when comparing EVERYTHING else EXCLUDING THE ENGINE. Think about it - the entire interior, exterior, body shell, brakes and suspension is nearly identical.

PLUS

You're getting a nicely optioned EB fastback, saving yourself $$$ over a base GT and already have a great overall package IF finances are limited.

The EcoBoost aftermarket is now just as strong, if not stronger and supported by the Aftermarket just as the V8 counterparts have been for years. Anything you can do to a GT as far as driveline upgrades, exterior, interior, brakes, infotainment and suspension can be done to any EB.

So it really just comes down to the ENGINE decision for most - V8 or Turbo4. For me personally, yes, I AM BIASED towards the 5.0's and DOHCs, always owned such and love the sound too - but my choice to get the new EB even outweighed my V8 passion.

As far as mpgs - my EB is at a stable 26mpg which for ME and MY situation is beneficial for my daily commute.

Could I have had another V8 - sure - but as I said, after reading up and researching the EB, I can still do everything to it that a V8 owner can do...and more. I'm not really missing out on anything, as I have experienced the Mustang V8 phenomenon and it's nothing earth shattering (to me).

310hp w/ 3.55 gearing and in Sport Mode is extremely fun. :)

I have a pp prem ecoboost auto. I do 70 miles a day. Love it. I wanted a gt and almost bought one twice(I've had 2 ecoboost mustang). But my big complaint was I couldn't get the gt preformance pack in a auto like I could with the Eco. So fully loaded Eco took the cake.

I've got a EcoBoost with the Performance Package. Other than the Pirellis (which I'm so far not a fan of), it's great. It won't snap your neck like a GT would when you punch it, but 310 HP better than a lot of what's out there.

I don't use it as a daily driver, but I do take it work a few times a month, so I commute in rush hour with it and it's fine. I should add that I've got the AT so my third pedal days are thankfully behind me. :)

One more thing to mention: In my opinion, the EcoBoost still has tons of "fun factor" points in my book. I love driving it, and after three months still smile when I apply the throttle.

I recommend test driving the EB+PP and see if you like it. It will blow your Jetta out of the water. ;)
You have the PP with an auto trans? I though they only come with the MT.

The ecoboost you can get the preformance package in either a manual or automatic. The gt you can only get it in a stick( I wanted a auto preformance pack gt)

As far gas mileage goes, I drive my Ecoboost with a light foot and the best I've ever gotten was 19.4mpg, even on the freeway. Also, the Ecoboost's horsepower is not as consistent as at GT. Even on the coldest days power tapers off because of heatsoak.

If you choose the ecoboost, make sure to set aside money for an aftermarket intercooler.

For the money, I would get a loaded EB vs a base GT, especially for a daily driver. I think you get more car for the money with a better trim and fixings, and would make a daily driver more enjoyable. 305hp is definitely enough to have fun with and it's betting handling is a huge plus. Of course, if you had the money, I would recommend the GT Premium but many here feel like the GT is what you should sacrifice for which just isn't true. For daily driving, I think the premium package would go a much longer way than the base. One thing to keep note of is that I have been looking at the depreciation of EBs vs GTs and they are awful. Like a couple years ago Hyundai awful. Just something to keep in mind. Also, I have been hearing issues with EB motor like tubes blowing off. I don't think you won't ever have to worry about the Coyote in that respect.

Oh that's cool. I definitely would have considered the PP if I could have had it with the AT.

Couple of things here. Either your definition of light foot is off, or there is something wrong with your car. I drive with a fairly heavy foot in town and am averaging 24.3 MPG. Driving on the highway from Indy to Nashville a couple weeks ago I averaged just over 32 MPG.

As an Ecoboost owner, I want a GT.

That's all I will say on the matter.
