Having grown up and old using both Imperial and Metric systems, why won't the US adopt the Metric system once and for all and be done with the archaic Imperial system? Hell, the country that invented it has gone Metric.

Who is the Imperial measurement special interest? Light switch and power receptacle companies?

It's almost akin to hazing in college...

"We all had to endure fractions so you do too! Convert 2 - 42/68ths into an improper fraction!"

"Uhhh,...oooh...fractions....I didn't really study for this...had no idea there would be math involved..."

"Ok, Ok, that one always trips up the new guys...So, how many ounces in a Gallon?"

"Uhhh, let's see...there are 504 pints in a hogshead...there are what...63 gallons in a hogshead...divide...carry the one....round the remainder...Uhhh,...16 cups to a gallon...12 pints to a....wait...was that 504 pints/hogshead or 405? Damn...this is hard....Uhhhh, you know what? It's Canada and the Metric system for me...Hello University of Ontario!"

"Bienvenue à votre premier jour de cours! Commençons par quelque chose de facile. Calculez combien de micromètres il y a dans un kilomètre divisé par le point de congélation de l'eau?"

"...Uhhh,..."

Go live in a commie country. you'd like it there.
Are you stupid? The US and one other little country like Liberia or some such is the only country on the Imperial system. What does it have to do with politics?

Perhaps you don't understand how the Metric system works.

Jerry Springer is still on the air… just goes to show that some people love to stir up shit, then argue and fight about it.
Comical actually.

I hated the metric system 45 years ago in school, and still do.

One of my favourite Imperial unit names from my engineering studies was slugs/ft^3 for the density of water etc. :) We went metric in the 70's when I was a kid but I worked as a carpenter as a younger guy and we always used imperial for that with lots of fractions of course and I still prefer it that way when I do stuff now.

Just my $0.02 from a Commy country..........

I do a lot of modeling and prediction stuff and scaling up or down is maddening with fractions.

The US chose not to switch as the cost to do so was high. I imagine it still is.

Working in the cabinet industry in southern Ontario I bounce back and forth between units. No one references their ceiling height as 2.5 meters (8').

Imagine the cost to update road signs with miles listed to KM. How many bridge height signs are there? How many road speed limit signs? Billboards with directions?

Hell, even drag racing ".402 kilometers" does not sound as manly as "quarter mile". McDonalds would have to change their "quarter pounder" to ".113 kilogrammer" . However, 15.2 cm sounds better than 6 inches. :cwl:

The o/p does not understand the economics of such a switch,
Nor, does he understand why the USA wants to stay different, we are the road block holding up the NWO. and some hate that, Changing to metric would be one more baby step toward their goal.
NOT ON YOUR LIFE!
