i love the vert don't get me wrong and would love to have one but it loses the fastback look. I also need a roof over my head. I've flipped two cars in my lifetime.
Ouch! With that history I would stick with hard tops also! Be safe!

I live in NH, so the top-down season is short. I get a kick out of the folks who have them and then have the top up in the summer because it is "too hot". WTF?
Fall and spring are best - and summer nights down the shore!

I've just never liked the lines on any vert, not just mustangs. Plus I like the idea of metal protecting me instead of cloth.

Wait a few years when warranties are expired and there's issues with:
Top hydraulic malfunctions
Electronic glitches or malfunctions
Misalignment of convertible top frame parts
Misalignment of rear windows to top and front windows to top and A-pillar
Excessive cowl shake due to accrued miles
Leaking hydraulics
Excessive wind noise or water leaks due to top alignment issues
Replacement of rear window due to shit in trunk that busted it

Other:
Theft (easier to rip a top and gain access to your stuff inside car)
Top maintenance for those that don't have storage or garages

AND lastly.... the need to replace the entire top due to eventual wear/tear.

Yea, been there done that with a prior BMW convertible that was a daily driver - never a convertible again, unless it's a classic that will just be used for shows... And even then, doubtful to ever be a vert owner again...

In no way putting down a vert or vert owners, as there's pros and cons to everything in life, but just outlining the higher costs associated with ANY convertible over ANY hardtop.
Don't hold back next time!

Because they are gay :bolt:
Funny. I had my last vert for 10 years and in all that time I never saw it trying to pick up another guy!

I'm on my third convertible Mustang, had an 04 and 13 before the 15. The best of the lot was the old two valve 04. Sweetest sounding engine and with the top down it was mesmerizing. Also had the best sounding stereo out of the bunch.
The new S550 vert has a weak sound system. I thought the system with the sub in the trunk would sound best....nope. Also the windshield on the new ones has a bit more rake compared to the older ones and hence more cockpit buffeting.
If you like road trips, there's nothing better than travelling around the country in a vert. I like mine, but it's on the chopping block. I just passed the 1000 mile mark yesterday, but it's getting traded on a new GT350 due in any day.
The GT350 will be nice :D, but you must be losing your shirt on that trade, plus no headroom for passengers in the fastback. I too was thinking GT350 (getting my 2016 replaced with an identical 2017) but not many GT350's to be had and they still jack the prices too much. Good luck with it!

I own my Mustang because it is a convertible. I was shopping specifically for a convertible and was not set on any particular make. I had pretty much convinced myself that I was going to get a Audi s5 convertible when I went by the Ford dealer to look at the last car on my list before deciding. I really liked the Mustang, it looked better, was faster and more comfortable and cost over 30k less than the Audi. It is a GT premium with all options except the adaptive cruise and 20" wheels ( I wanted a real spare), so it was not cheap, but a lot better that what I was prepared to buy! I'm in the south, so I have pretty much year round opportunity to drive with the top down. I'll keep it up if it is too hot or cold, but I don't think there has been a stretch of more than 2 weeks since I have owned it when I didn't have the top down at least once. This time of year it is a daily occurrence. I like the fastback as well, but I wanted a convertible, and that is what I got. I have had some issues with the support rods that hook into the rear window, but they are easy to reattach, and I will eventually get to the dealer for a fix when there is one that will last. It is pretty quiet with the top up on the highway, and no leaks yet. You cannot damage the glass by stuff in the trunk because the window folds into a space behind the rear seat, not the trunk. No regrets for me.

Drive that 350GT in good health. I thought about it. The car is just great. If it came in a vert, maybe. But the S197 I just sold was very modified including the Ford Racing suspension and exhaust. Maybe it is just me getting old, but it was too loud and too rough on the moon scape that are our local roads. The new GT is a good balance. I have the 3.55 differential ordered and I will likely upgrade breaks and rubber - maybe a cold air intake and tune when Ford releases them so they don't void the warrantee.

Looking at the poll for 2016 orders on another string, I was surprised by the numbers for convertibles ordered. 520 of us responded to the poll and only about 15% ordered convertibles. And they were overwhelmingly GT premiums about 75%.

What's up with that? I think that they got the line of the coupe perfect. That is part of it. And better for racing. Unlikely it is cost as so many convertibles are GT premiums which are the most expensive non-Shelby model in the current line. But less than 1 in 5?
I think a coupe is more practical than a convertible. (If indeed a mustang can be practical:))

I bought a vert because I wanted a weekend cruiser. Otherwise, I would have probably gotten a coupe.

But then again, maybe not.

I've come to realize people are either convertible people or not. I've owned three in the last 20 odd years and you'll hardly ever see my car moving with the top up. In my Boxster I've been seen driving top down with snow flakes falling!!

I would rather have a t-top option. I loved that in my 300zx. It still blocked enough sun but looked awesome. I can't do the vert because visually it's ugly to me when the top is up(which is 99% of the time).

Mustang buyers are 65% men (despite what the other pony car forums like to say).

I would wager the higher percentage of us men are in some stage of hair loss.

So...we have no hair to blow with the top down. Isn't that the point of a vert? Plus..the suburn on a bald head is almost instantaneous. It sucks, even with just a sunroof.

I looked at the s5 as well, very nice car but ended up with the Mustang for pretty much the same reasons. I have learned that the quality in the Mustang build was the biggest trade off.

(?) I got all my hair and wear a hat during hotter days. Can't beat the vert for night time cruises here in SW FL
