Looking at the poll for 2016 orders on another string, I was surprised by the numbers for convertibles ordered. 520 of us responded to the poll and only about 15% ordered convertibles. And they were overwhelmingly GT premiums about 75%.

What's up with that? I think that they got the line of the coupe perfect. That is part of it. And better for racing. Unlikely it is cost as so many convertibles are GT premiums which are the most expensive non-Shelby model in the current line. But less than 1 in 5?

Price. A convertible is about 5k more expensive.
And to be honest, I personally think I don't look good enough to pull off a convertible. Unless I have money to buy expensive ones like Porsches and Ferraries.

Because the Fastback is a hotter looking car by a country mile
Plus in my opinion cars always look better with a roof

Not a big deal but I wouldn't want to pay more to add 100lbs to a GT. They're already heavy enough

Also, never liked the idea of a clothe roof over my head.

i love the vert don't get me wrong and would love to have one but it loses the fastback look. I also need a roof over my head. I've flipped two cars in my lifetime.

I bought a convertible as my weekend/nice weather car. Always garages. 100 miles on it so far and more than half of them is with the top down. :-)

Here in the midwest you can only enjoy it for a few months a year, and in the winter they are PAINFUL. As a DD - no vert, as a fun car maybe.

The lines of the S550 convertible just do not have the visual impact of sleek, badass look of the fastback.
However, I think the S197 'vert looks better than the the S197 fastback.
For the S550, initial price/options/out he door price may have something to do with the take rate.
The MSRP for my '08 GT convertible was $37,440.

I live in NH, so the top-down season is short. I get a kick out of the folks who have them and then have the top up in the summer because it is "too hot". WTF?

I honestly don't like the way the S550 looks with the top up.. with the top down however it's sexy as hell.

Convertibles are fun for about 10 minutes.. with the hot ass weather, awful traffic, blazing sun and sudden rain showers, not to mention the extra weight, and lost of rigidity, extra cabin noise, eventual water leaks etc etc.. no thanks! A Fastback with a Glass Roof however.. that would be nice.
