Oh god people relax, its almost too easy to aggravate people on the internet. Don't think this forum would be this interesting if everybody agreed with one another.

Right? Thats why the Ferrari 458, Mclaren P1, Porsche 918, Lamborghini Aventador, Jaguar F-type, Lexus RC-F and all those others are all manual transmissions....... oh wait...
Funny you should mention the F-type, so I ll quote a director from Jag here since they added the manual option to the F-Type "With the manual transmission option for the V6-powered F-TYPE models, we’ve gone to intricate lengths to engineer a very precise, technical and responsive level of interaction between the driver, the clutch and the transmission shift mechanism. It’s one for the driving purists – and I count myself as one of them.” - Ian Hoban, Vehicle Line Director, Jaguar "

But if the Mustang had a dual clutch I wouldn't complain. As far as the v6 Camaro goes, yeah that was might have been a mistake, I was young and just out of college back then, but hey at least it was a manual and if I had a choice between that an ecoboost Mustang I would still pick the Camaro in a heartbeat.

Of course if Ford puts out a GT PP Auto it will sell, but so does a Hyundai Sonata. A 19 year old girl down the street from my friends house, her parents just picked her up a Race Red Ecoboost auto, that's kind of the demographic Ford was aiming for with that configuration.

Exactly, just look how slow my automatic GT is (see my signature below).
I also never said an Automatic is slow, its just boring, and makes it much easier to just floor it and not think about anything else. A friend of mine always uses his old Pontiac Grand Prix auto at the strip, but a manual mustang on the street.

Because if you want Performance you don't want an Automatic.
I disagree with you in the performance comment. Automatics of today have amazing performance. BUT if you want to drive your car and not let your car drive you then you get a Manual.. I love driving through the twisties on the back road country side going through the gears! Being stuck in traffic well then it would be nice to have the automatic!..Lol

Thats exactly it "driving purists", additional performance is not mentioned at all, it's a novelty option for folks who like manuals(which isn't a bad thing for the record). A manual transmission will make you feel more involved for sure, and if thats what you like then theres no problem with that. But you specifically implied more PERFORMANCE which is false. Pull up a list of performance cars with the ZF8 auto and you'll see what I mean. Theres nothing wrong with manual transmissions, but they don't provide any performance that a good auto box cant beat or match.

What you're doing is the same thing as the people who say "real performance cars aren't convertibles" and "automatics are for girls" blah blah blah. Take a look outside, its 2015 bro.

Plus 1. "Driving purists" are those who simply cannot admit mechanical devices-for whatever reason- are better than they are at doing mundane things like shifting. There was a time many, many years ago that I too felt I was more adept at shifting than the automatic trannys of the day-and I was! Then came electronically controlled transmissions, and that(as they say) was that. Today, if I feel the need to flaunt my manhood- I play with the paddles, and lie to myself. E:Dnd of story.

An automatic GT is quicker than a manual GT around a road course?

If you put both cars in the hands of the same driver? Probably, but not by much, maybe one or two tenths of a second. The autos are quicker on the 0-60 and since the entire rest of the car would be the same I would imagine no huge gap between the two.

I love reading this stuff! I don't really care who buys what as long as the OPTION to buy whatever you want is there. Been doing the manual thing for over 20 years now. Though I think I'm pretty good at it, traffic has made me rethink my transmission choice. Whatever transmission I get, I'm sure I'll like it. You can reach insane speeds really quick with either..
