And this would be why you'd want one:

:frusty:

Since the links from Google Pictrues don't want to show, I ran over a pry bar on the road this morning

I have a set of 255/40/19's from my last Mustang, one wheel and tire just barely fits in the well. It slightly rubs the rear trunk liner when inserting it, but it does fit.

It does not sit below the trunk floor level, though.

So maybe a little truth to the theory that the spare tire wheel well is not big enough.

I have a Ecoboost PP and I bought FR3Z-1K007-C. The spare fits over the 4 piston EB-PP front brakes just fine.

I wouldn't trust the spare for use on the back wheel because its OD is significantly smaller than the stock 255/40 R19 -- I don't want this to chew up the limited slip differential.

See, that's why you need a GT PP - the Torsen in that car can handle the tire size difference... :D

It's plenty big for what it's designed for-the factory donut.

One 255/40ZR19 tire fits in the trunk on top of the wheel well cover (not much room for anything else, I can vouch for that!)

The spare tire is not an option with the PF Ecoboost. Reason being is the larger tire size. The spare tire wheel well is not large enough for the 18s. Thus a pump is placed in there. Why Ford did not make the wheel well larger is unknown.
That's not it.

The 19" tires are no larger in diameter that the 18" tires, or the 19" A/S tires that can be ordered with a spare.

Original thinking was the spare was not big enough to clear the GT PP front brakes, which may be true but doesn't explain the EB PP, which has the base GT brakes. The base GT, of course, can be ordered with a spare.

So my new theory is that Ford thinks the spare is a bad match with summer tires. The full set of models that cannot be had with a spare is EB PP, GT PP, and 20-inch wheels. All have summer tires.

Still, that's Ford's opinion, and I would be sorely tempted to get a spare from Ford parts, and just drive gently when it's down. Lots of peace of mind in having a spare.

I grabbed a spare kit for my car. Wheel will only go on the front of the car if I need to use it. I also keep the standard pump in the trunk.

A big shout out to forum member zipnz who sold me a surplus spare kit for less than the cost of buying it new at the dealer
