Isn't Ford going to be doing the 'valet/teenage driver' electronic limiting thing that kills HP/TQ ??? If someone buys their 16yr old kid a Mustang then (hopefully) that is a VERY RESPONSIBLE and mature youngster.....if not then the parents deserve every bit of grief they are going to receive. I learned to drive on the very 1967 I have now, but I never 'owned it' for 30+ years. 1st car was a 1979 Plymouth Horizon (yeah baby!!...not :), bought w/my parents. Made me work hard for the next 10 yrs to get my 1st Mustang.

It being nippy is the problem. Look on YouTube for 3.7 mustang modifications 1/2 the time it's some teenager. Let's face to the mustang is an affordable sports coupe. Or convertible it's not a Porsche although it may beat one on the track. The day the mustang becomes a Porsche in price it's status it will no longer be a mustang it will just be another sports car. But cookie monster I believe you are correct. I think you all are forgetting how recently mustangs were running 16's and 17's down the 1/4 mile.
Don't be dissing my first time slips LOL. We all had to start somewhere but I watch guys in GT500s get smoked all summer at ORP by much less powerful stangs and other cars - they just refuse to feather the clutch or side step it or roll into the throttle. Watching their frustration is worth the 40 mile trip.

Launch control changes everything for the average Joe which includes me as my launches vary greatly. With a track setup my ETs vary from high 11s to 12.2s. I've thought about slicks n skinnies with a double sway bar in back and drag springs but I end up at the road course more than the strip.

Got off topic. I could see a 2.0 in 2025 trying to hit 54mpg but maybe the cars will be aluminum.

I'm sure...I think my valet key is set at 85mph and radio volume is half. It may limit RPM too but never looked into it.

The last thing ford needs is a bunch of sub 200hp 16 second 1/4 mile base models.
Yes, that was the Mustang II.

I think this thread is indicative of a flaw in our society today: Parents want everyone else to protect and be responsible for their kids but themselves.

How about being responsible PARENTS instead and realize that little Johnny or Suzie will still love you if you don't spoil them with their dream car at age 16? How about recognizing that kids, no matter how safely they try to drive, are prone to making mistakes? I have two teenage drivers and one that's in her early 20's -- I know all about this, unfortunately.

Also, who's to say that these spoiled kids would even buy a bottom-tier Mustang if Ford neutered it down to a low-horsepower brick? Many would just talk their clueless, detached parents into buying some other car that they have no business driving.

I'm obviously generalizing. There are indeed exceptionally responsible and skilled teens out there that can drive a nice, high-performing car safely and without incident. But those are just that, the exception. The truth is, those are often the same kids whose parents actually 'parent' and recognize that their kids shouldn't be driving a nice/fast car to begin with.

Mustang is and always has been about "exceptional performance for the money." That's its DNA. It's not intended to be an 'everything' car or an economy car. I personally do not want Ford to dilute the brand any further by introducing a super low end, low HP model. There are plenty of other cars to cover that demographic that can do a better job of it.

I was just about to say the same thing scottpe.

To expand on your thoughts, getting your first car is among the biggest responsibilities a young person can have and it's not about the speed and power of their first car, but the value. If we start our driving careers driving a nice car we might take the priviledge of driving for granted and not respect what it means to earn the things we want in life.

Would any of the members on this forum be so enthusiastic of the Ford Mustang if we didn't have to work so hard to buy/restore them?

Exactly. The sense of entitlement is already rampant in our society today -- this kind of thing only serves to feed it.

I agree with this, except that last paragraph. I dont mean to nit pick but I am 18 and have never owned a mustang. I have been obsessed with them since i was 14. Ive gone on forums basically everyday for the past 4 years. For my birthday my girlfriend surprised me with a 2014 5.0 from the local ford dealer to drive for a day. The dealer let her have it for a day after she explained to them how much I love mustangs. That was one of the best days of my life haha. I continue to add to my 'mustang fund' and hope to buy whenever a DI v8 comes out. I probably wont have the money until I am 24 haha. Its gonna be a lonnnnngggg wait. Im fortunate enough to drive my dads infiniti g35 coupe right now. I am so lucky to be able to drive that and love it, but everyone knows my heart is in a mustang. Whenever I see one I go crazy. Doesnt really matter the year.

I don't mean to distract from the thread but i just wanted to share my story. Thanks for listening to the dumb 18 year old!

Not dumb at all, nice to see someone so enthusiastic about the mustang, and a G35 coupe ain't so bad until you get your own stang. Allow me to shed this light on the topic. My first car was a 1996 Camaro z28 with the LT1 engine when I was 15. When I first started driving it,mi was TERRIFIED of the power, it was only when I started getting comfortable with the power and the car that I got a little more ballsy. Next thing you know, I launch from a street light, lost control and slammed into a guardrail, I was a very irresponsible kid and my poor parents paid for it (literally) so I think a lot of the danger comes after the they start getting comfortable with it

That actually fits my mindset perfectly. Your enthusiasm means you have something to work for and the satisfaction wouldn't be as great if someone just gave you the car. My passion started early as well and it wasn't until I was 24 when I got my current Mustang.

When you first start out learning to drive you start with a full bucket of luck and an empty bucket of experience. The goal is to fill the second before you empty the first.
