No you don't. You wanna be in the 3.31 or even 3.15 range if automatic to get the boost going. Changing gear letting of throttle drops boost. So for FI cars, e would want to try a 4.10 gear if possible? I'm interested in the thread but still learning.
Can you use the Whipple calibrator (for the purpose of changing the gearing) on multiple cars? It's not that difficult if you have the proper tools and a lift. We had ours installed by Power By the Hour performance in just a few hours. You'll need the gears, gear install kit and the Whipple flare tool in order to properly calibrate the body control module.
Give us a call if there's anything we can help you with.
Thanks,
Jared
Ok, sorry I should of clarified, I'm a manual. Still go 315? 331?No you don't. You wanna be in the 3.31 or even 3.15 range if automatic to get the boost going. Changing gear letting of throttle drops boost.
3.31 would be a good choice for boosting. I dont think you can get 3.15 because its an auto only but auto's have 4.17 first gear where manual is 3.66 so 3.31 x 3.66 = 12.11 vs 3.15 x 4.17 = 13.13.Ok, sorry I should of clarified, I'm a manual. Still go 315? 331?
When you purchase the Flare tool it's locked to your VIN number. If you wanted to use it on another car you can request a new file for a different VIN from Whipple and there will be a $100 fee for that file. Can you use the Whipple calibrator (for the purpose of changing the gearing) on multiple cars?
I'm a manual pp car, aiming for 750-800rwhp and will be a combo of drag strip and city. This car isn't my dailyAre you running a manual or auto? What power level are you aiming for and will you be drag racing the car or is it just for the street?
Thanks, Jared
I'm a m6 so no converterif it was me, i would go for a circle d 3c before changing out the gear.
the car will still drive great on the street, but the converter will not only be stronger and hold the power better, it will allow the 60's to drop quite a bit.
The 3.73's are going to be real tough to get a handle on at that power range. It's just a lot of power for that short of a gear. You'll have to bang gears like crazy as well as hit 5th at the top of the track with them.I'm a manual pp car, aiming for 750-800rwhp and will be a combo of drag strip and city. Can you send me the part numbers I will need to swap over to the 3.31 torsen? The 3.73's are going to be real tough to get a handle on at that power range. It's just a lot of power for that short of a gear. You'll have to bang gears like crazy as well as hit 5th at the top of the track with them.
We went with the 3.31's and the gearing is much better now for the track and the car drives great on the street.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks, Jared

It's just calibrating the speedometer. So nothing actually has to be changed in the tune, just the body control module? Is this something the dealer should be able to change so I don't need to buy the flash module for just one time use?
