Does anyone have a Whipple installed with a strut tower brace? I have the FP one and am in the middle of deciding which supercharger to get. As stupid as it is, I don’t want to get rid of my strut tower brace. I’ve heard that a bit of shims and I can get it to clear the brace, but maybe hood clearance is an issue? I have an aftermarket hood so it should be ok? Any thoughts?

Brace doesn't really do anything so no big loss

You could choose a Centri or Turbo setup instead, and keep your brace.

Yeah I have been considering a centrifuge build, do you run one yourself?

I have a PP1 with a Whipple 3.0. This spring that is my next project to do. But, I will have to make a plate with spacers for the brace to clear top of whipple.
And Yes, the support te brace gives to the front is most likely negligible. But, I want one any way.

I do. I've had both the P1X Procharger and ESS G3X. Can't really go wrong with either of them, and are certainly more cost effective and easier to install than a PD or Turbo setup. If money were no object though, I'd probably have gone with a Hellion Twin setup

Any concerns with hood clearance when you shut the hood?

I am going to stick with supercharger, I’ve thought about it quite a bit and in my head turbos are for Hondas and blowers are for American muscle. I know it’s stupid and outdated etc etc, but that’s how I feel. I want a supercharger whine with this car…

What’s the benefits (beyond strut tower brace) of centri? How’s power delivery? How’s pricing? What kind of power with how much boost? Talk to me Goose

Not the best direct comparison because they use a Roush 2650 instead of a VMP/Edelbrock or a Whipple, but this covers most of it

Keep in mind the current Whipple superchargers don't really whine like the old ones do.

Yeah, I found a kit that increases the whine. I love the noise, I can’t even tell you how much.

The benefits are mostly in the cost, and ease of install, although I personally would argue that they are easier on the engine (important if your motor is stock) because of the way they build power. The power curve isn't really a curve at all, and instead a straight line to the moon. This makes torque mor manageable and doesn't load up the engine at Low RPM's like a PD does.

Now, everyone likes the feeling of torque- However torque is only as good, as can be managed at the tires. If you are running street tires, a PD blower will be harder to manage from a traction standpoint, and like they say- If you're spinnin', you aint winnin'. Of course, if you like doing smokey burnouts, and going sideways, maybe a PD is right for you.

You will see several instances of people on here claiming that they installed a Centri and aren't satisfied with the power, and having to really get the RPM's up before the rush or strong acceleration happens. This is generally a case of not pullying down enough. For a street car, you don't live at 7000 RPM, so I'm of the opinion that you should use a smaller pulley than what you actually think is needed, so that power comes on sooner, and provides more midrange torque.

Turbos are the best of both worlds. You get high end Horsepower, low end torque, and the ability to change boost on the fly with an electronic boost control solenoid. Also, turbos don't steal power to make power like belt driven power adders.

Power is subjective on any given day, on any given dyno. The attached graph was when I was on a 105mm pulley, and yes it has a correction factor of 21% to account for altitude and DA that day. Probably making right around 700 Wheel, actual at this altitude.

Any of these power adders have more than enough capability to blow up your motor. You just need to determine what the use will be ( Street car, drag racing, taking out crowds at cars n' coffee etc)

I have a Anderson Composite Shelby Snake hood which has allot of clearance. Try asking or create a post for people to let you know what the clearance of the stock hood is from the Whipple. I haven't seen anyone make the necessary modifications to get the strut installed so its new I guess.
