Thought about doing it myself but after reading the install guide I think it may be slightly above my skill level. Plus I think I would prefer to have a shop install it if I had any problems it would still be somewhat under warranty

Local reputable install shop is quoting me $1850 for the install which seems really steep to me. I thought this was like an 11 hour job? They claim that they take no shortcuts and these kits have taken them 15 hours before. Even then it’s like $125/hr

Those that got it installed, how much did you pay?

It will take about 10-12 hours at most. I would say 10 or a little less at a good shop to install. so figure their hourly rate.

I've gotten a few quotes to install a Gen5 on my car and they were all between $1,200-$1,300 for the install.

$125/hr is about right for a shop rate.

sounds like a lot, but it's not
A decent sized performance shop needs to clear $20-40k a month just to come in and turn on the lights in the morning.

Damn, you all are crazy to pay that for install. It's really not that hard. Even if you messed something, it would still be cheaper to do it yourself. Plus you will actually learn something. Use the money save for a fuel system or something else.

The scary part for me would be the grinding of the timing cover and under the intake. I think theres also a bit of wiring that needs to be done if its like the roush/vmp kits. I wouldn't have felt comfortable doing a whipple/vmp install but felt fine doing my procharger install, mainly because I had previously installed a centri blower on a previous vehicle so it was in my wheelhouse.

With that said prices are all over the place, low side is about $800 high side is $1600 and up.

You don’t grind anything with a whipple install that is with a vmp or Roush

Thank you for the clarification, sounds like the OP should consider doing it himself in that case.

Its a shame gearheads don't work on their own cars!

Install it yourself!

Learn something!

Use money saved to buy tools!

There are 2 GOLDEN rules IMO for modding cars.

#1 THY SHALL NEVER PAY FULL PRICE FOR PARTS
#2 THY SHALL NEVER FARM OUT WORK ONE CAN DO WITH OWN 2 HANDS
