Hi everyone! Thanks in advance for any help. It's much appreciated.
For those who have installed the Whipple themselves, I have a question about the knock sensors/intake manifold.
As the manual says, I split the knock sensor wire loom and turned the sensors outward not touching the engine. I removed the plastic L-shape thing attached the the passenger side sensor and on the Driver's side, I untaped the plastic 'L' and twisted it downward with the wire and re-taped in the downward angle.
Question: When I installed the intake manifold, there was resistance toward the mid rear area(knock sensor area) when lowering it down. Being that I followed directions, I assumed it was all good. Now I have all the pulleys on and the belt, I'm questioning myself now. If I have to back track, I'm a hand full of hours past that point, but will do it if I have to - I don't want to, but I REALLY don't want to after the install is complete complete. Should I be concerned that maybe I may be damaging or have damaged a sensor/s? Could I get false knock codes or something?

Thanks
Don

I removed both plastic L and tucked it as close to the head as I could. I did not feel any resistance setting down the lower intake/intercooler.

When I did my whipple install I installed everything and was ready to set the head unit on when I thought that I might have had the knock sensors too close to the heads. I pulled everything back apart because I didn’t want to have to do it once the lower was full of water. It was worth it for the peace of mind.
My lower intake went down without any resistance so something is not right. It sucks to pull it apart now but double checking means you won’t have to worry about it later.

Thanks Turbofiveoh. I'm the same way. When I did my OPGs and CS I had a nagging feeling about torquing a certain bolt(behind the engine cover.) 6 hours later and I was back to square one, but I felt good that everything was okay. I'm 50/50 right now. The sensors I positioned approx(less than a half of an eraser width) .100 from the block(as instructed.) Knowing that they are where they told me to put them more or less, I'm hesitant to go back in because I would be basically moving them only a little bit closer to the block, if not touching the block. I'm banging my head about this, but I work til tonight so I won't be able to do anything until tomorrow anyways. Got plenty of time to decide about this headache Lol.
Thanks

When you say the ā€˜mid rear area’ are you talking about the wire loom itself? Referring to that, you should be able to reach behind the intercooler and feel that wire loom move freely in the open notch closest to the drivers side. Obviously no other wire loom should be pinched in there either. I did not remove my plastic L support pieces near my knock sensors either and my distance is probably has the same clearance as yours. I’ve done four Whipple installs this same way and none have been a problem or caused false knock.

We can definitely mind f**k ourselves on these projects especially when we choose to do these types of projects because we want the satisfaction of knowing it’s done right. Ultimately you have to satisfy your own demons.

Here is a pic of mine for reference.

Thanks db252:like:. I'm definately one to mind f**k myself. Yes, I was talking about the sensor wires. I did check the wire loom and it does move freely in that open backspace to the right and the regular wire harness behind supercharger is free and clear. Maybe I didn't move the sensors close enough to the block and the sides of the intercooler belly rubbed as I was placing it down. I wonder if it would matter. I didn't have to bolt it down to have it sit flat or anything. At this point, I don't have that nagging bummed out feeling that I got with the engine front cover and oil pump bolts, so crap on it. Whatever tension is on the sensors is constant and shouldn't change more or less.
I'm going to leave it:thumbsup:

Thanks

Copy that. I feel like you’re good with what you’ve done based on your description.
